I love the position we have in this draft - somebody will fall unexpectedly and we'll be in position to take them without having a glaring need that we have to address.

What I'd like to see us do is trade out of the third round. We suck at drafting in the third round. If we give up our thirds for fourths we'll get the same players and have to pay them less.

Smith, Schlegel, Pouha, Strait, Askew in recent times. Still with Baker, McKenzie, Coles in previous years I suppose it balances out.

I can't imagine us going offense in the first round. If we traded down, with the scouting that we got from the team last draft, we could fill a load of positions with excellent players in the second round and third rounds in a trade-down.

If you think Coles cant change a game. Then you have not watched the Jets this season. Coles did it all year long!
The man was voted team MVP for a reason. You guys are unbelievable....

There are 2 trains of thought going on here , 1- Is Coles a #1 WR? and 2- Can he change games?
The answear is yes to both , but he is an average/good #1 , not great. Hes been great for us , especially in this season with the limited arsenal that we have had which has meant that he HAS to come up with plays. Both Cotch and LC have played out of their skins this year and have taken quite a beating , tough SOBs.
But like Tight said LC isn't getting any younger and his days as a vertical threat are over , Cotch isn't that guy either. Dwayne Bowe is lighting up the senior bowl and coaches are taking note.
Will Bowe be their at 25? At this rate no , so all the people who don't want him , don't worry.
Personally I would love to see him in green and white.

The unqualified star of the South practice was LSU wide receiver Dwayne Bowe.

Bowe's highlights included over the middle catches in traffic and circus tip drill catches along the sidelines. His only blunder, a dropped Kevin Kolb bomb at the end of 11-on-11 drills will probably keep him up tonight, but it shouldn't. He showed separation and made a lot of money, looking very strong and crisp in routes. Few people in town have helped their stock this week as much as Bowe

I agree with byz, if it got to the point that the BPA by far is a WR i'd rather just trade down and get value in a player that we need, yes WR can be a need but it is absolutely in the bottom of our needs list, going BPA is nice to do, but blantantly ignoring by far our 2 biggest holes for that is irresponsible, we aren't going anywhere until we can run the ball and stop the run

And as for Kiper, when will you guys learn, I wouldn't even call him an expert, he is notorious for blatantly overplaying the newest thing he sees

These early mock drafts mean zero before some FA are signed. They change everything.

I am definitely concerned about Coles coming back after what he said after the Pats loss.. But to draft a WR in the first round or at this point, ANY ROUND makes absolutley NO sense at all... We need Reggie Nelson somehow..

I don't think this is the craziest thing I've ever heard. The Jets are in good salary cap position to sign some free agents. As Tanny said a few weeks ago their plan is to have no positions of need prior to the draft. So, if they can sign a D-Lineman, OT, Corner and RB prior to the draft, I think they will have the flexibility to select the best player available in each round.

And for what it is worth, IMO there is no position on this team that is good enough not to bring in more players (with the possible exception of SS). Also, how long do you think Coles is going to be a Jet? He takes a physical beating and is the biggest complainer on the team. I give it 2-3 years before he either hurt enough to miss significant time or the CS gets sick of his BS. Don't get me wrong, Coles is a fantastic player...probably the best guy on offense, but he is by no means untouchable nor is he the best presence in the locker room.

I would have no problem with bringing in a young WR that could become a game breaker in a few years.

do u even know what gamebreaking means? Those are players like randy moss,Lt,reggie bush ect.. players that can score at anytime any part of the field.. can u confidently say coles can score from anywhere on the field on any giving play? i will say that about cotchery before i say it about coles.. t be honest im not sure if coles cn or cant. cause its my opinion that our qb holds our recievers. cause i seen a few deep balls were if it was a big arm qb coles could go 70 + yards and td with us he beats guys deep but has to comeback for the ball.. so im not sure what coles is. but i do know next year he will be 30 so to say we cant use a reciever is crazy. thats why i like i like the fact that tanny is planning to go in this draft with no needs so he can get the BAP. and in the mock bowie is the BAP.. with the chance of getting a good linebacker early in he 2nd rd. ala lamar woodley.

Unless this guys turns into a total steal I will be pissed if we draft a WR in the 1st round. Its clearly not a need

yes, but we're also talking long-term here.

and generally, WR is a position in which the learning curve is a couple of years; and in a couple of years, Coles is either not on the team or not in the league.

forward-thinking. that's what being a good GM is all about, and Tannenbaum knows this.

i'm not saying Bowe is an absolute necessity, but if we sign a G or NT (i.e. Kelly Gregg), selecting a WR - if he's the BAP at #25 - isn't farfetched. the only other thing i'd do, is trade down.

    cheers

I have been really paying attention to the draft class this year, more then usual. I watched almost all the bowls, I read almost every article that was written on the senior bowl and one thing is for sure this year, and its that Dwayne Bowe is an absolute beast!!!! I would absolutly be happy if the jets draft this guy, he has height, speed, and toughness. He will burn you deep, but will also go across the field and take a hit. Lets not all forget that coles 1) has a bad attitude towards mangini 2) he isnt getting any younger 3) he has openly admitted that he would like to retire in 3 years 4) McCarines is a gonner this year (thank god). We cant have brad smith as a #3 WR. Bowe would be a perfect fit to groom for LC's spot NOW. In the draft this year there isnt going to be many players available we are in a really bad "gray zone" where the talent just isnt worth the pick. Personally I would like to trade our first rd pick for turner but thats another thread. (or 100s of others of threads) For all the doubters, im asking you to post who should be available at our pick, and i can guarantee they wont be better then bowe. Carriker is the only other guy i would pick over bowe, but if there is anybody that raised their stock more then bowe its him, he will be an all pro, no doubt.

Bowe is looking like a beast in the senior bowl, coles is beaten up and are we even going to keep McCariens around next year? I like the pick.

I said way up above (read everything first man) that Cotchery is starting to flash that ability. I'd like to see it more to believe it, but that was real impressive.

Agree 100%. However, what you describe is a #2 receiver in my mind
