Mehta just continues to prove that he's a hack who doesn't really care about doing good journalism. He just wants people to talk about him, which he accomplishes all the time with his ridiculous articles. ODB is a great player. But Revis has shutdown better players than him in the past. I'll never forget that game in Detroit where he made Calvin Johnson totally dissapear in 2010. That might be the best game I ever saw him play. Yes, Revis has gotten older. But to act like ODB would just obliterate Revis if they went up 1 on 1 is ridiculous and shows a general lack of knowledge (not a surprise) on Manish's part. Could ODB have a great day against Revis? Of course he could. Revis, while still awesome, is older and everybody loses a step. But to say he would set a single game receiving record against him 1 on 1 is just foolish.
He's declined a little bit. He's gotten older. But he's declined from a level of play that very few CB's have ever reached. That has to be taken into account. On a scale of 1-10 he's gone from being a 15 to a 10. And to be fair, there are still 5 games left. He could dominate down the stretch and we could all be laughing at ourselves a little over a month from now for thinking that Revis wasn't the same player.
Interesting perspective, I didn't see it like that. We have such massive expectations for Revis because of how well he played in 2009-2010, and now you realize that wow, CB's do get burnt every so often, like everyone else. It's not so much about Revis declining in skill as much as it is Revis being impossibly good during his prime. I would still like to see Revis play more press coverage. I'm not sure if that's Bowle's doing or if Revis physically can't do it anymore, but that's where he plays his best. Disrupting the receiver's timing, getting physical at the line, etc. That's what made him successful for so many years.
Agreed. In particular i'd love to see him press ODB at the line this week. Get physical with him. And I really do think that's what this comes down to. Revis was at such a high level during his best years that when he has a bad game people are totally shocked. It's just not something people are use to seeing.
jesus Christ what the fuck do you guys expect the guy to do? you understand that the play he got beat on the jets had 11 guys within 4 yards of the los? you do realize that both safeties were at the los? you do realize out of that set they DIDNT blitz? he held the jackass the week before to 14 yards, got beat for what a 4 yard gain when they needed 3, he plays that route as tight as possible and gets beat for a td and he really looks like an asshole. my god man get a grip.
to be fair, revis owned ODB in the preseaon game this year and really the only Wr who had a good game on him was hopkins
The blatant disrespect of saying OBJ has a chance at the single-game receiving yards record... I stopped reading.
Real mature response. You don't gameplan in the preseason, you use preseason to get into game shape and look at other players. You can't take anything positively or negatively from the preseason or the Eagles would be 10-2 right now. Remember when Chip Kelly and Sam Bradford were the next Mike Martz and Kurt Warner in August?
Mehta following the herd. One person claims he isn't the same player, so Manish follows suit. Also, why does he say Cooper and Watkins would have burned Revis for touchdowns were it not for bad throws? You write for the Jets, why are you writing negative things about a player? I don't even know what throw to Cooper he was talking about, but the Watkins ball Revis did make a play on it.
