I admit I have had a bad taste in my mouth since the failed conditioning test. I'd love it if he played to what his potential is. I thought in episode 2 of Hard Knocks they were talking about McKnights lack of effort, and lagging. I could be remembering wrong. I'm in no means writing him off, if you can be explosive like he was in for his 67 yard punt return all the time I'll take that in a minute.
Lynn discussed the fact that some days he's there, others he isn't. His inconsistency can be pointed at one thing - he's a rookie.
But that was never said. Again, I'm just tired of the definitive terms used in response to a context-free TC moment.
I believe the exact words were "Some days I don't know where his head is at". I took it as mental lapses since he was talking about losing the details. It could mean attitude. We don't know. Since he said Joe should try to improve one thing per day instead of everything at once, I was under the impression his attitude was overzealous at worst.
No he is right Lynn was mad at him. It was pretty clear dude. This isn't school man.... (inside joke) What do you think man, they film thousands and thousands of hours of film and pick out the few minutes that add drama to the show? Come on......
Is Joe coming in to replace LW or not is the question here. Evidently, he's gonna get a pass just like Verna did but so far, he hasn't shown a helluva lot. To his credit, Verna didn't come to TC puking. Until Joe proves otherwise, he's just another draft pick that's not meeting expectations in year one. Perhaps he's a gameday guy that excels once the gun sounds. We'll find out real soon about that either way. Forgive my impatience with DP's. If the FO/CS hadn't rolled the dice and made the LW trade, perhaps the expectation would be a lot lower but that's not the case. McKnight is expected to fill that void along with LT. Are you comfortable with that scenario with what you've seen so far? Are you ready for the Joe McKnight era?
When it comes to expectations and not meeting them, the comparisons are fairly close Igs. Verna was supposed to make us forget about John Abraham and the gap in our pass rushing since his departure. That hasn't happened yet and most likely won't. Joey was supposed to be our LW replacement and so far, he's coming up short. Now it may be his first year and as such, he'll get his pass for puking in TC but being evaluated as a bit "distracted" in his approach to the game? Not good for a pro, let alone a rook. Doesn't that raise a red flag or two in your opinion? Time will tell but if Verna is any indication, the JMK pick might not be the one to make us forget LW.
McKnight is a fourth round pick, Gholston was the 6th overall pick, what the fuck? And you're talking about two different players at two different positions, that's like trying to compare apples to chocolate milk.
I'm just saying... If we need to rely on this kid in any capacity this year, we're in trouble. Not NFL ready.
Well Lynkx, the "fuck is", as you so elequently put it, is the EXPECTATION the CS has for both players, not their draft position. They had visions of Gholston rushing the QB like the old days of Abraham. They have expectations of JmK being the second coming of LW. Neither of which has come to pass as of last night. As far as comparing apples to chocolate milk, since both of these players were drafted with specific roles in mind, that is pass rusher and all around KR/PR/3rd down back, those roles are what I was referring to, not their relative draft positions. Neither players has played up to those roles and we see only glimpses of JmK being the dynamo that LW was but not this preseason. Think Expectation, not Draft Position here. Especially since they traded UP to get JmK.
rex is going to try a color coded thing for McKnight: Red= dont fumble Yellow= ok to fumble, but try to fumble towards our guys Green= ok to fumble
He seems to excelling as a punt returner so I don't see him NOT making the team. I really don't want to see Woodhead go though...
I have two huge issues with this. One is that you are trying to compare a guy taken in the top ten of round one with a guy who they just picked up in the fourth. Two is that your entire premise is off base. You seem to be suggesting the Mcknight was brought in to replace leon's production in the offense. We signed this other guy, I think he wears a dark visor during games, to help replace what leon brought to the table.
McKnight was a developmental pick and they knew that going in, just like they did with Ducasse. The fact that the kid is showing flashes of what he could be, means that the talent is there, and that's more then Gholston ever showed, so the comparison is retarded, because at least McKnight is showing why he was selected. This is way overblown, and this season, (b)LT is taking over Washington's role from last year, aside from punt return/kick return, which he's never done to begin with.
We ran a 2 back system last year, it sure as hell seems like we're running a 2 back system again this year. What was Leon's place in the system with Greene and LT ahead of him this year? There wasn't one. That's why Leon is unfortunately gone now and why the coaching staff is going to let McKnight develop. And if you think the CS is looking for McKnight to be a solid 2nd back with Greene, I'd say you're right. I'd also say they don't expect that to happen by his 3rd preseason game.
I know it's not gonna happen but i'd rather see Chauncy Washington make this team as opposed to McKnight. I think if given a legitimate shot the kid could be productive.
No reason why they both can't make the team. They both have played well on special teams. Danny Woodhead does not, however, play well on teams, so I think he's a goner.
