doubt theres much to this.just tanny's "every rock every day" thing.probably wanted to guage the asking price and find out what kind money mjd is looking for
I found Gregg (2 G's no less!) Rosenthal annoying when he was Florio's #2 on PFT and he is just as bad writing articles for nfl.com - in his article on MJD trades he throws in at the end: "Of course, they could passively listen if some team sent them a Godfather offer. It's hard to imagine any team wanting to give up a few high picks and a big contract for Jones-Drew, but the New York Jets seem like a team that might just be crazy enough to give up that many resources for an aging running back." Yes, because the Jets are always throwing multiple high draft picks around to pick up aging players, such as..........? I would love to know what it was the Jets did to PFT to cause them so many sandy issues.
MJD is also a stout pass protector that can help shore up the right side. Again, is Jacksonvilles oline known for being great? Again, I though Mojo was basically the entire offense in Jville? This would be a HUGE pickup for our offense. Trade Holmes please. figure out away to have Jville pay some of the guaranteed monies.
Brian Costello @BrianCoz The Jets are not interested in Maurice Jones-Drew for all of you amateur GMs. #nyj
The Oline in Jx aint great and the offense is all MJD as you said. Gabbert looked like a retard last year and his TE was a collassal flop after having a great year the year before. The people here saying Greene and MJD would et exactly the same yardage on teh Jets have blinders on. That is basically saying that the talent of the RB has ZERO to do with how many yards he gains-MORONIC. Is the O line important? Massively important for an RB's success. BUt to say its all on the O line is saying Adrian Peterson, Arian Foster, Shonn Green, Joe McKnight, Matt Forte are exactly the same player. Its a retarded premise. Im not even sure why they let RBs into the HOF hmy:
I think our backs are decent, but MJD would crush any of them, he would make the line better, even WFH. His asking price just wouldn't be worth it, though. If we can't afford a solid tackle, we definitely can't afford him, especially when his position dictates such a short halflife.
If Tanny can find a way to get this done under the cap, then absolutely do it! He would be a monster upgrade over Greene. Give 'em Greene, Tebow and a conditional pick that can go as high as a 2nd.
Was thinking the same thing. When a player this good might be on the trade block, you must make an inquiry and see if you can get lucky. Unfortunately, I just don't see how Jets can even afford to pay this guy.
Its not going to happen, Rich Cimini from ESPN has already called it, we cant afford him and the team needs attention elswhere, not at running back
The problem isn't dealing picks for him. It's giving him the big contract he wants. I understand MJD sitting out, but it's hard to give someone with his wear and tear that much money, even if he didn't play a ton his first couple years with Taylor in town.
Didn't Tanny just dig up $15M+/yr for Aso a few months ago? Now you're telling me he can't dig up less than half that for MJD? As far as who Tanny would ship off to Jax for MJD I have no idea. But if we DO get him, sign him to a one year 'wonder deal' then run him 600 times, use him up, discard him like we discard everyone else. Let him in the building once in a while to stare at the Lombardi he won for us. BUT NO TOUCHING!!!!
