i was pretty confident it was him. its funny how everything changes when he is a jet and there is a fluff piece, and then when he is let go. i always pulled for him because of his connection with adrian murrell. he surely wont be sorely missed but i was always pulling for him.
I realize the imprtance of STs, I realize the importance of continuity, I don't just want to go out and buy FAs and make trdaes every year. We were really close, we needed some tweaking but we are overhauling. Losing Jones was big, losing feely is big(if he leaves), losing the other STers is big. Sheppard and Rhodes I'm ok w/ but we have created more holes than we have filled so far and if people just expect drafted players to step right in and fill those holes they are in for a big surprise. This offseason SO FAR has been atrocious, there's still plenty of time to rebound but so far it couldn't have gone much worse. It's not about just this player, it's about losing another quality STer and adding to the other players we have voluntarily let go for some strange reason. When I say pete kendall vibe, his situation extended into training camp. The FO didn't take care of it quickly or prepare for it and it was a sign of things to come in 2007 when we had playoff expectations but we finished 4-12.
What holes? Safety? Yes, if you consider Smith and Iggy to not be starters. Sheppard cut? Plug in Cromartie. Jones cut? Plug in Greene. Two special teamers? Westhoff can coach, have some faith. At this point you can say, we lost the starting safety, need to consider a replacement. But the other cuts, not major.
RB S K(we signed one but we are letting the best K we ever had leave) STs We are clearly worse today than when we were when the season ended. There's alot of the offseason to go and that could change but so far this offseason has been a disaster.
Pat Leahy ring a bell? Besides, Feely has not been signed by anyone yet. Look, RB is Greene's job now, if you don't think we can find a vet or draft pick to fill the backup role, then I don't know what to tell you. I would only start to worry if Leon goes. Safety, it is not like the cupboard is bare, Smith is serviceable, and Iggy has shown some playmaking ability. Plus Brodney Pool is in town. Special Teams, again, trust in the coaching staff, they developed these guys in the first place. They can develop more.
Pat leahy was awful, Feely is MUCH better than leahy ever was. Greene is the starter but we don't know if he can hold up being the primary ball carrier over 16 games and beyond- he couldn't even hold up for 4-5 games. I'm ok w/ Rhodes leaving and his comments yesterday make me feel even better but we still have a hole there. I like Brodney but he has a concussion history- would we be able to count on him if we did sign him? I do trust our front office and CS but many of these moves have been strange and I'd love to know the reasoning behind them. As of today we are worse than we were a month ago.
Pat leahy was awful, Feely is MUCH better than leahy ever was. One of the top scorers in NFL history, but whatever Greene is the starter but we don't know if he can hold up being the primary ball carrier over 16 games and beyond- he couldn't even hold up for 4-5 games. If Jones got hurt, wouldn't this be the same talk? Do you hope the 32 year old holds up? If you want to say depth, fine, but to think Jones is the starter is wrong, Greene showed what he can do in the playoffs. I'm ok w/ Rhodes leaving and his comments yesterday make me feel even better but we still have a hole there. I like Brodney but he has a concussion history- would we be able to count on him if we did sign him? Rhodes had a falling out with the staff, which he is proving to be much more than we thought with his comments. No need to have a malcontent in the locker room. I am certain that he can be replaced. I do trust our front office and CS but many of these moves have been strange and I'd love to know the reasoning behind them. As of today we are worse than we were a month ago. Fair enough. I would trust in the staff though.
Were you around for the leahy years? Kickers weren't as accurate as they are today but leahy was never a great kicker, he kicked forever and compiled nice point totals but this is a guy who missed 26 PATs in his career. I didn't want Jones back to carry the ball 300+ times again, he would have been back and had his carries cut in half to limit the abuse all the RBs would take so we'd have fresh RBs for hopefully another playoff run. One of the biggest reasons we made our run to the title game was b/c of the fresh legs of Greene. After 16 games and 300+ carries will his legs be as fresh?
I was around for the Leahy years, and I remember he had the record for most consecutive FGs made for many years, until Feely tied it last year. Perhaps percentage wise he was a bit down from Feely's numbers, but he was not chopped liver either. Your questions about carries has validity, but how long do you wait to give Greene the reigns? You do not believe another vet or rookie can be brought in to spell Greene? And what of Leon, in this scenario, he will get more touches. I don't see it as a bad thing.
Oh wow, we'll never be able to replace him...until the UDFAs are available. Junc, have you made any attempts to blow Feely in reality or are you just satisfied doing it over a message board? He was middle of the league last year. We can definitely get a better kicker on this team.
couldnt agree with this more. I would've loved for jones and washington to work the first three quarters, then bring in greene when the d is gassed in the fourth.
