I always wonder how much a college QB does at this level that he can't get away with at the next?

like how many awesome plays only work on inferior pass rushers and coverages, or with a slower pace?

it makes me take comparisons of college players to pros with a major grain of salt."Geno can't do that" assuming mm can against pro players for example.

It also makes me think of QB's like MM's as raw putty to mold rather than plug and play entities who will do everything they've done in college in the NFL.

good intangibles, technique and physical prowess matter more than playmaking ability at a lesser level.

Crazy how average MM looks when he goes against good defenses.

Taking him will set us back another 5 years.

    mariota looking real inaccurate tonight.

probably a good thing for us, maybe TB will pass over him if Winston has a big game

That kid can freaking run though. His acceleration is nuts.

That and he looks smart with the ball. Bad throws but no boneheaded mistakes. His accuracy this game made me worried but you are right, I gotta watch more tape on him.

can we perhaps accept a reality where he's got very good potential but isn't assured to lift us to the promised land?

we need to stop ourselves from going all out on one view or another.

Maybe some team can turn him into a Heins Ward or Randle El then cause he does not look like a pro QB.

Well I dont think he will even be average no matter where he goes (except Philly)..so I have a pretty drastic view on him.

Watch where you use that term "Raw" some won't take a liking to it.

He's definitely smart with the ball. That I really like, but man I want to see this kid perform at the Senior Bowl under a different offense.

Who is faster IYO - Kaepernick or Mariota? People have said Mariota ... but I'm not all that sure

I really think Winston is going to be a better NFL QB than Mariota. As Bill Polian noted, the league is shifting back to the age of the pocket passer. Look at what's happening to guys like RG3 and Kaepernick. Whether it be wear and tear or defenses adjusting, you just can't rely on your legs to pick up yards long term.

The guys who are successful are the ones who are great pocket passers, but can alternatively use their legs to either extend plays or occasionally convert on third down (Rodgers, Luck, Wilson, etc.). I think Winston fits that bill much better than Mariota does.

this fan base is so absurdly dumb to the point where they are judging the best prospect in the NFL draft by 1 half of football

I'm not so sure. Mariota isn't a pocket passer but he also isn't a run first qb. He's more of a scrambler like Big Ben. Not sure what that means for the NFL, but after watching Winston last week (and knowing his long release which won't work in the NFL), I'm more confident in Mariota.

Nah if it was 10 years ago it might be a decent pick. But the league has caught up to the running QB.
