Im no Mariota fan, but the coach and GM that take Winston over him are putting their entire career's on the line. Tampa does seem like the team to do that cause they need the publicity but its a huge risk.

Also cant see Mariota being taken after 2 DE's and a tackle.

Mettenberger was a 6th round pick for a reason. He has some upside but showed nothing to be considered a franchise QB. Why would a team who hasn't had a franchise QB since Steve McNair not try to upgrade at the most important position in football?
Schefter reported the Bucs were leaning towards Mariota first overall and it's probably 50/50 they take him. There's no chance imo he makes it to 6 when he can go 1st, 2nd, 5th and the Browns and Eagles would more likely than not already have trade packages ready to be offered when he begins to slide.

I think Mariota's got a lot of nice intangibles like his ability to throw on the run, his speed, his height and length and he seems like a smart kid and a quality teammate. The big question on him remains his ability to make all of the throws IN the pocket and ability to read defenses quickly. This is what really separates QB's at this level. I think with the right tutelage he'll turn into a quality NFL QB. I doubt all of those teams pass on him before 6 but I'd love the Jets to grab him.

I don't see Lovie taking Mariota over Jameis... Winston is more of the "NFL QB" .. why people here worried about Mariota playing shot gun as if that's not all Geno does? Gailey runs spread heavy im pretty sure we'll be in shot gun a lot anyway .. plus that gives Mariota more room to use his feet, and he has different type of speed once he gets going ! Mariota can fly when he sees open field, I'd love to see that . a guy like CJ spiller could also help Mariota with qb spy's, make them pick their poison. if Mariota is there.. get em and don't look back

the only thing worse than watching the jets lose the superbowl is watching the patriots win it. we're cursed forever

They truly love Mettenberger down in Nashville.

Had he not blown out his ACL late in his senior season, he could have crept into the first round.

He is going to be very good player.

I also cannot imagine both the GM and HC who are on the hotseat would take a rookie QB with the 2nd overall pick and put their eggs into that basket. They have to hope Mettenberger can save their jobs.

If Mariota's there at 6, I listen to what Chip Kelly and the Eagles are presenting in a deal. Anything less than a 1st and 2nd this year and a 1st and 2nd next year and you have to pull the trigger on taking Mariota. Might even need a 4th round pick this year to add to that as well, it might sound like a king's ransom but if you want this QB, you need to pony up. Eagles would have to overwhelm the Jets in a deal they cannot refuse to pass up. Even if it involves a potential franchise QB, which I know some of you don't like to hear.

Steve Serby stinks. He is just copying Todd McShay. Serby is a punk most famous for getting shoved inside a locker by Richard Todd who got tired of his personal attacks. I wish Todd was still around to do it to Mehta.

If all goes well, I can see Mariota as a taller Russell Wilson. I think he would succeed, and pretty quickly in Gailey's system.

The best thing Todd ever did with the Jets was assaulting Serby. His on the field productivity was mediocre.

Biggest difference between Marcus and Grno in the same system...Mariota has excellent footwork on top of great character, IQ and leadership when throwing the passes.

Key thing is not that he can't make a certain pass but can he adjust with what he has... Like Russell does.

i so happy that there is someone else out there who has heard all of the same things i have.

he played exceptionally his senior year under cam cameron and went from being an ehh guy to a top flight qb.

they are very high on him and i am going to almost guarantee you they dont take qb in that spot. i am much more concerned with what the skins will do than the tits.

Granted, he wasn't great...but Todd started close to 100 games for us.

    He had his moments.

Fun fact...Todd and Namath both achieved a 0.0 QB rating in the same game.

    Now that's mediocre!

Hard to say. He plays the offense the coach runs. It was there before he came. It was not designed for him. Is he capable of doing other things? He has never been asked to. Can this be determined at a combine and thru an interview? Probably not. It is too high a pick to screw up.

Todd was never a fluid QB. He always looked like a guy who wanted to run and was being held back. His arm was okay. He just never seemed natural. And he was probably dumb as a rock.
