Seems to be the best way to be more correct than not. I'd have been surprised if Manny DIDN'T use. He's 36 years old. Guys that don't age should be the most suspect. Heh. . . Frank McCourt. . . .eedjot. You got rolled.
To those getting uptight that I made comments about guys like Piazza, relax, I really don't care if he did or didn't. That's pretty much the point I'm at with everyone. Nobody surprises me anymore. (The comment was meant to tweak Shade anyway.) As far as Piazza, there was supposedly a reporter who claimed Piazza admitted using to him. Again, who cares? At this point, there were so many dirty guys that I err on the side of "He was a user" before giving a guy the benefit of the doubt. In the end, one of two things is going to happen: 1) Eventually it will be assumed that the entire sport was dirty and it'll be chalked up to a learning experience. In this case, Bonds gets into the Hall of Fame along with ARod and Manny, and maybe even McGwire. 2) Eventually it will be assumed that the entire sport was dirty and all the fans will walk out and the sport will die. If that list ever comes out, I fear it will be the latter. I say the sport as a whole should come out and say "Look, we F'd up. We're truly sorry, and we're going to fix it." And then actually do it.
I'm not saying he didn't use anything, but as of right now I'm going to wait for all the facts. Reports are that it's a drug that is used for fertility and erectile issues. I know it's used by steroid users as well, but until all the facts come out I'm not going to jump to that conclusion. It may very well be that he did use steroids, but he's still innocent until proven guilty. I hope it turns out to be a legit medical thing and that's all. I have my doubts though.
so manny was shooting blanks? Or could stay at attention? that's terrible now the debate can turn into - which is worse?
I say they release the list and get it over with. If they keep going like they are now it's just going to be a weekly steroid report/rumor over and over. Put the names out there, let all the idiotic, self righteous commentators have their fun and eventually it will blow over. The only reason this is even an issue is because of the ridiculous lies and non-enforcement from MLB and this mythology that was created that baseball was a "pure" game from 80 year old sportswriters. I mean does the NFL have this problem? A guy gets busted, he gets suspended and that's pretty much the end of it. Merriman was a legitimate DPOTY candidate the same season he got suspended for PEDs.
Female harmones? Female fertility drugs? Manny, we didn't know! Doesn't make him a bad person. Not that there's anything wrong with that...
Manny will do that to ya. BTW, if I find Manny and A-Rod rolling in the hay, I'm giving up on baseball.
I mostly agree with you. If they'd just come fully clean, the sport could get past this. The problem is, that list was compiled thanks to a confidentiality agreement. That's a pretty hefty violation of trust, and in the future, the league could never ask the union to bend on anything based on anonimity. It's a catch-22. You can take the "easy" way out and just get past everything today, but you'll eventually have to pay the piper. Or you can ignore the 500lb gorilla in the room, and still have "trust" to fall back in the future. Really, what I think they should do now is just forget random testing. Every player in MLB should be tested once per week. Don't like it? Tough. That puts trust back in the entire sport from a public standpoint. Right now, if a guy gets tipped off to his test, he's off the hook. If every guy has to be clean every week it's much harder to skirt around the tests. I think if they instituted that though, the DLs of every team would be full the next day.
You have to blame baseball writers also. These are guys who go so ga-ga over ballplayers and stats, and then pretend as though they're writing lyrical ballads about grand Romantic heroes - too blind to ask the question, "Gee, I wonder how Barry Bonds keeps getting better as he gets older?" And then, there are the REAL holdouts. The guys like Kurkjian who will, to this day (or at least until recently), argue that nothing has ever been proven. The whole bunch of them - players, owners, MLBPA, writers - they all were part of the same great conspiracy and cover-up. NO one deserves the benefit of any doubt. So, let's just accept it as what was and move along.
I have to say also, Manny's best defense is stupidity. This is a guy who would sometimes forget his way home from Fenway. This is a guy famous for two things - hitting and idiocy. People might just believe that he was stupid about it.
couple things...Yisman..not sure if you thought I was asking about Mota to point out Met PED user or not, I wasnt though. I was having an argument with a Red Sox fan about whether or not the wole damn league(hyperbole) was on roids or not and was pointing out to him that even insignificant players like Grimsley and Mota were on teh shit. Murrel- Bitter Yankee fan? Stop that nonsense right now. I already have a life time of Yankee memories to keep me from being bitter. And your question about whether theres proof about Manny being on roids with the Sox was not innocent as you claim. You were obviously prepared to defend that stance. And its a ridiculous stance. OF COURSE HE WS ON ROIDS WITH THE SOX bro. Final point. Can you fucking imagine if the Yankees had signed Manny? OMG. Between teh Arod thing and now Manny it would be...well I dont even know what it would be. The media, the Yankee haters, the embarrassment OMFG. Thank God they didnt do that shit
At this point, I just assume all baseball players are juicing. It would probably be a bigger surprise if we found out a player wasn't using anything. Meyers and his co-host had a guest on today before they interviewed Jose Canseco (I didn't catch his name, but he had some kind of relationship with Jose), but he was throwing names around of players who took steriods. He said Piazza, Pujols, Pudge, and others. He was also asked about Wright and Jeter and he replied, "One I'm 90/10 on and the other 50/50." I thought it was pretty gutsy of this guy to say such stuff. You usually don't hear some guy saying he knows who roided (except Canseco).
bwahahhahahahaha that might be the line of the year my friend....I actually have a quite impressive vocab.I do 2 hour presentations to old banking dudes for a living. I just act like a maroon on TGG. Plus I couldnt figure out how to spell exaggermoration
People think it, that's the only evidence necessary. Just ask Lance Armstrong. Better yet, just write a book and don't source anything you say. Just say it all happened and then everybody will know for sure that it did because it is in a book. As of today he is just as dirty as anybody else you care to name. Of course he did it with the Red Sox..he did it in high school too..(did he go to high school)?
