I don't think Manning made the wrong decision on the pick 6. It looked like Wayne gave up on theroute. Had he continued on he was open. Manning had a good game. Not great but he wasn't the reason they lost either.
I don't care how many SB's Peyton Manning wins. He's the best QB I've ever seen and probably will ever see.
Agreed. Team sport and all blah blah blah, but it does seem more special when a team wins a playoff game against elite QBs and elite teams (as opposed to playoff teams QBed by guys like Grbac and Bono and Brock and Flacco, etc.). Bradshaw and the Steelers defeated elite teams led by elite QBs a number of times. Brees and the Saints knocked off Warner, Favre, and Manning. That is extremely impressive. I was thinking about similar runs and had '75 Bradshaw & Pitt (beat Bert Jones, Ken Stabler, Roger Staubach) and '93 Aikman & Dallas (beat Favre, Young, and Kelly) as the other best runs in this regard.
Wow well too bad he didn't play like this against the Jets. He was good but not lights out like he was 2 weeks ago.
people were getting way too ahead of themselves w/ manning as #1 if he won. they forget all the choke jobs. Manning is probably around 10-15 right now, that INt was a colossal choke job(moments after he was almost picked off). I think if he played well w/ a win he would have been inside the top 10 but this probably keeps him out. The great news for him is that he has time to overcome this and keep climbing.
No question about it. He played well until late yesterday though but he flat out choked that last possession and looked like Manning normally does in postseason unlike the great version we saw 2 weeks ago.
No question this was a down year for the AFC in particular. The road to the SB was much tougher in the NFC than the AFC. One thing about this year that I think really helped the Saints was the amount of games they played in Domes. I also think it's no accident that the stats of Warner, Favre, Manning and Brees are highly inflated, particularly on any historical basis because of the amount of dome games they play. While the SB was played outside by all indications the weather was perfect and the field was playing very fast you might say dome like fast.
right now he's in the same area as brett favre.great qb.all kind of records but fucks up the postseason.
He didn't get 'great' two weeks ago, until Shonn got hurt. Once we couldn't keep the ball he got better. Yesterday, once Freeney couldn't affect the game, and he couldn't get the ball back, he came back to earth. See a pattern? He's a very good quarterback, in a great offense with a great supporting cast. But at the end of the day, the only way he can beat you consistently, is to have the ball more than you. (generally speaking) Look at the list of things that had to happen in the AFC championship for them to get away in the second half. They looked good against a very damaged Jets squad.
Peyton is still the best. The Colts are not even in this one if he doesn't hit a myriad of perfect passes to Dallas Clark. Let's face it, Clark was blanketed on almost all of those plays and Manning looked like he could hit a gnat in the breadbasket. No other qb makes those completions.
Manning really put a dent on his legacy yesterday?he is 9-9 now in the playoffs and his only win came against Grossman (with his D magically carrying him that postseason)?I always ignored the fact that the line ?great players make great plays in great games? never applied to him in the postseason (minus the Pats game), after all which QB could throw that inch perfect pass to Clark covered by 5 saints? He still has 6 or so seasons left but I seriously doubt he wins more than 1 ring if any?bottom-line he is a regular season QB?watching him demolish us I kept thinking finally he has gotten over the hump coz I don?t think he has ever played a postseason game the way he played against us? Most QB?s match their regular season numbers in the postseason?some get better like Montana but sadly for Peyton he gets worse?and it has been like that since high school to college to the NFL?his teams have always been championship caliber but never materialized?the common denominator being him? He is the best QB to watch ever but not the best QB ever?because the whole point of the game is to win?.
Ok, I have a serious question for you guys arguing that Manning isn't GOAT, or that Brady is better then Manning: You guys are saying playoff choke, 9-9, say his only superbowl was because of defense, etc etc, but that is exactly why Brady has 3 rings. His defensive ranks those 3 SB wins were: 6th in the league, 2nd in the league, 1st in the league. Manning has been mostly a one man show in Indy since he's been there. He has turned no names like Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie into household names. He places balls in spots that it shouldnt be placed (the Dallas Clark pass yesterday comes to mind, along with the Coleman play in AFCCG) You guys have a huge case of receny bias if you think Manning isn't GOAT. Next you'll say Roethlisburger > Rivers because of rings, right?
Tell me how good a QB Brady was the one healthy year, he had an offensive cast similar to Mannings? Record setting, I believe. And that was Outdoors. Manning is a very good, maybe great QB, but...He's very soft, He plays 12 + games a year in favorable weather and he's even been the direct beneficiary of rules changes to suit his style of play. Imagine Montana or Bradshaw playing with those advantages.
Roethlisburger is better than Rivers because he's bigger, stronger, more mobile, has a better arm and can make huge plays out of nothing against the best the league has to offer under big time pressure. That's the reason he has the rings even though Rivers has played on teams that are as good or better than Rotethlisbergers teams. Manning clearly is a student of the game has a great arm, great touch, throws the sickest, sweetest ball down field in stupid tight spots. There is still no denying that he underperforms consistently under playoff pressure. All time great QB but he is not the GOAT. I don't think there is a GOAT but I can't think of anyone going into a SB who would prefer Payton Manning to Joe Montana, Terry Bradshaw, Rodger Staubach or even a Ken Stabler in his prime. Brady has played on better teams and on the SB teams hasn't been asked to carry the same load as Manning. You can argue that the Pats weren't built around Brady when they won their SB's and since the team was rebuilt around Brady they haven't won a SB but to Brady's credit he has been far more clutch in the big pressure moments than Manning has been.
Sb Qb If i was to have any Qb to lead my team in a Super Bowl, i would have to go with Montana. 11 Td's and 0 int's in 4 Super Bowl's. He definatly has nerves of steel when it comes to big games.
