He's more versatile. He has hands, has more burst and can return kicks. In that sense he is definitely an upgrade over Greene. If we've learned anything from recent history, the amount of $ in your contract is not necessarily reflective of your talent level.
No I would love Lacey if he is there later in the draft. We desperately need a back like Jones again. We need all the competition we can get
Jets love Goodson's upside. Brings speed to RB position. Downside: 7 career fumbles in only 219 offensive "touches."
i still think we take a RB through rounds 2-5. seahawks really liked their competition as they just kept bringing in good players. like if gio bernard is at our pick at round 2, i still think he's the pick. that really increases competition because then literally no one has a clue who is starting
the kid from Alabama? It depends when he's available. If he is there in the 2nd round I would take him but I doubt he drops to the 2nd round.
Damn, I guess this eliminates any RBs from the draft. Really wanted Gio, but hopefully this guy can stay healthy and play well
I just feel like we've wasted picks on RB's the last 4 seasons and none of them are that great. Let's develop the ones we have on the roster already, maybe bring in a undrafted rookie free agent in camp and go from there.
Do you guys think McKnight is at risk to be cut with this signing? If Jets land somebody capable of returning kicks in the draft, I think his days could be numbered. Not too knowledgeable about this guy but from what I'm reading his skills & McKnight seem to overlap.
we haven't wasted a high draft picks on any RBs really. shonn greene was a 3rd round pick and then joey mcknight and bilal powell were 4th round picks. must of the great RBs (lesean mccoy, ray rice, matt forte, etc) are all 2nd round picks. i think gio bernard would be a surer thing than any of the RBs currently on our roster
Was wondering about that. Looking at all the RB this draft, I thought Jets could wait all the way until Round 5 and still add somebody productive in a RB by committee approach. Or they could aim higher for Lacy/Gio. RB was one position I was OK leaving as weakness while heading into this draft.
Hell no! With the WCO, we are going to need as many pass catching backs as possible. We are going to have one FAST and QUICK running back crew. I'm loving this
Grabbing a RB (or any other player) off another team's practice squad is kind of like the draft. You have all the kid's college tape to review, PLUS his pre-season tape from the year before AND comments from his team mates as to his attitude, work ethics, etc. Plus at least one other team thought the dude was good enough to keep around. I can see Idzik (in the cap shape we're in) raiding a few decent young players from other team's practice squads this year.
given that its mcknights last year under contract, i think the jets would move him if they could get a 6th round pick
Maybe, I wouldn't lose any sleep over McKnight going. Espcially if we draft someone capable of returning the ball (Patterson is apparently good at returns). McKnight is too high or low, not really consistent and puts the ball on the ground way too much.
I see your point here. I think the Goodson signing takes some of the pressure off in the draft though. If the Jets are sitting there on 39 and Lacy and Gio go off the board in front of them there's no reason to panic at that point. As you point out they can find another guy to add to Powell/Goodson/McKnight late and still have a good competition in camp.
I like this type of signing. Add a guy with starter upside, very least depth who can play ST, and a reasonable cost. Certainly takes pressure off in the draft to focus on the trenches. But if a quality RB falls to us and is BPA, we still select. In terms of McKnight, i don't think much of him at all, and i don't think his roster spot is safe....especially if they draft a RB.
