Was it ever confirmed that Wilkerson had a drinking problem? It's funny with Manish how unverified rumors turn into facts down the road. How does this clown believe his own delusions?
If I'm the Jets I want this guy no where near the team. Wouldn't care less if he's apart of the Daily News.
Manish is a slick little bastard. He said "issues with alcohol." What does that mean? Answer: it's too vague to mean much of anything. What makes him slick in a sneaky way is that he insinuates that Wilkerson has a serious alcohol problem without overtly accusing him of it. Anyone reading that tweet will instantly think that Wilkerson has a serious drinking problem that caused his tardiness and his decline in on-the-field production and explains why the Jets dumped him. But Manish never comes out and says it. He gives no examples or anything resembling factual support. With a guy like Manish, you can easily get duped if you don't read every word that he writes with a skeptical, critical eye Wilkerson's mom apparently called WFAN this morning and tore Manish a new asshole. http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2018/03/muhammad_wilkersons_mom_calls_into_wfan_rips_jets.html As for a defamation action, it's always a risky move by a celebrity. Truth is a defense, and character is at issue. By suing, the celebrity opens the door to wide-ranging discovery of his entire life. Not many people can withstand that level of scrutiny. That's why so few celebrities ever follow through and sue for libel.
The problem with Jets beat writers now is that they are no longer beat writers. I used to love Jets Confidential in the late 80s/early 90s because it was hard paper that you could buy and read. Don't laugh. It was pretty OK back in the day. I used to read it on Sundays when I was trying to take a dump. It often made me more constipated because Jets, but I used to enjoy players not sounding as stupid as they do now. Twitter. Can teams just ban this crap? Whatever happened to can't nobody block me?
I agree with your points about the difficulty of suing; besides what you've said, since Wilkerson is a public figure, demonstrating that the claim is false would not be enough to win a case. He would also have to prove "actual malice" -- that Mehta was not just negligent, but rather knew that the statement was false and displayed a reckless disregard for the truth by saying it anyway. That is a very high bar. The one interesting thing about this situation compared to most celebrity attacks in the tabloids is that he is right in the middle of trying to sign a multimillion dollar contract, so if he could demonstrate that this story has directly affected his potential earnings he could actually take Mehta to the cleaners.
Would he be considered a public figure for the actual-malice test? I'm not sure. He's not a guy who has a ton of commercial endorsements, he's not a household name, and he hasn't been outspoken on social issues like some other NFL players. Plus, Manish's innuendos involve off-the-field issues. Interesting question.
Based on what? I am genuinely asking as until Manish this morning i had never heard anything like this. It certainly explains some of his behavior. If so i really hope he finds the help he needs wherever he ends up.
I posted about this is September or October. My son plays college football & one of his trainers is an intern with the Jets and has been telling them Mo comes in hung ove constantly
Shit, that's terrible to hear. Both from a wasted talent and just not wanting anyone to go through that standpoint. *edit* Either way Manish had no business airing it publicly. Especially the way he did. The Jets and NFLPA should try to have his media credentials stripped.
It’s not about if it’s true. It’s wrong to bring that up. It’s personal and confidential. That’s none of our business. I hate Mo so I am not sticking up for him but football writers should write about football. It ain’t page 6. F the Johnsons
Whether or not he has a drinking problem, one thing is for sure, he has Mo Problems. Those problems affected his play on the field and his ability to be a professional for the New York Jets. Good riddance to the big disappointment.
Please let it happen at the wedding that never happened. He'll make a limp-wristed attempt to sack him, and then fall asleep. At least John Babyham donned a skirt and did a decent job of faking a pukefest. The flu vs. the Raiders vs. a broken leg. I'm like Hamlet. I can't decide.
