Yeah, and Jim Plunkett was a bust with New England and San Francisco and then he led two Raiders teams to Super Bowl victories.
For some reason their have been alot of Cards game on NFLN from last year. I've watched Pace pretty closely and I did come away impressed. It wasnt so much the plays made on the screen, but rather the number of skills he posseses. He moves very well for a big guy, has some very good inside moves to the QB and is a very good tackler. I'm excited by what he can do in NY.
I like that a lot of the people I respect on this board who have seen him play seem to really like the way he played last year. Obviously, he's only had the one good year, but hopefully it's more of a Farrior situation in which the 3-4 will make him a monster.
It's a good thing your statements are rendered pretty much irrelevant by your attitude. BTW, by your daft logic, no NFL analyst would be able to make comparisons to players that are 2 years older than they are. In fact, I don't think you should ever talk about any Jets team whose players are older than you are, because you don't think you are old enough to judge their talent or skill sets.
Honestly speaking, I've been keeping track of the Jets only since 2000. Mo was around then but was too old. I have'nt seen Pace play either. I think Mangini has some merit in comparison since he knew how good Mo was. Even if he was in NE, I can assure you Mo was talked about for atleast two wks in their locker room along with watching a few videos. Pace had one good yr but there is a reason why we gave him such a big contract. There is the upside to it. He only REACHING his prime. He will get better by the time and by the time his contract ends, he'll be just through his prime and should be cheaper to resign in value....unless theres no salary cap of course.
Folks, If one has questions about Pace they all should begin and end with David Harris. I see some have made jest of Mangini ability to judge talent and his mention of Mo Lewis. Yet, if we look at the Harris pick last year you have to feel somewhat reassured by Mangini appraisal of this player. Last year many experts thought the Jets reached when they traded up and took Harris. Although most felt the Jets got a good player, there were questions about taking him so early and giving up a pick to do so. I also remember comments from these same experts about Harris's speed and ability to adjust to the Jets system. Well folks, how do you all think it turned out? Do you think Mangini and this coaching staff understood a little better how Harris was going to work out in our system? I think the majority of Jets fans and in many ways most football fans would have given Harris the nod for Defensive Rookie of the year, if he had started from day one of the season. While much of the credit must be given to the player, some must be reflected back to the CS that took the chance and "reached". So if you think about Pace's acquisition it was almost the same thing. They had to fight for his services with the Fins, more directly with Parcells. I would have to say Parcells knows a thing or two about good LB'ers and Tuna fighting you over the services of a player should say volumes about the potential of that player. Now, like Harris there is no guarantee that it's all going to go in your favor. Yet, if all one has to judge a CS staff ability to pick talent is there past track record. I would say the odds are heavily in the Jets favor that we got an impact player who along with Harris is going to make a huge difference.......
I've been wondering if Pace could play MLB. He has good size and can engage blockers. Can some of the people who have seen him play more tell me how quick his play recognition is and how well he works in traffic? If he can play MLB, then we can draft Gholston/another passrusher and move Thomas back to the weakside. That would give us pretty decent size up the middle and some speed off the edge.
Mo Lewis was a very fast and quick linebacker by NFL standards of the time that he played in. He slowed down as he passed 30 and by 2000, the last of his Pro Bowl seasons he was on the decline at the age of 31. I remember him during his peak years as being one of the fastest big men ever to play for the Jets.
Thats exactly my point. I think our CS staff knows what they are getting in Pace. He played in NFL for quite a few yrs for our CS to get to know him even more so I do think that Pace will be an impact player and possibly a probowler...Don't get your hopes too high though...
