I agree with JetBlue's sentiments except about the firing Mangini part. What Mangini is doing right now by riding Pennington is outright maddening. It seems obvious to every Jet fan on the planet that this guy should be benched, why is it not obvious to Eric? Further, it is very hypocritical of Mangini to bench players such as McCareins for screwing up a single pass (I'm not defending McCareins at all here), but then continue to play Pennington when he loses game after game for us. Even when the defense hands us the ball right in the other teams red zone, he STILL can not get the job done. That is outright PATHETIC. I don't know if Mangini is afraid of putting Clemens under "pressure". I hope not. THAT would be extremely immature and outright terrible coaching. Clemens was drafted to be the Jets AND Manginis future. We should find out what this guy is capable of doing under pressure in case QB needs to be added to our draft plans come next April. I wouldn't fire the guy yet, as obviously his players have not really had all that much time to come into their own. However his stubbornness is costing him a lot of respect in this neck of the woods, and its something that may come back to haunt him in the future.
Who would make a good replace for mangini?? We fire mangini after he only wins 1 game this season. Who is his replacement?
Need to wait and see who else gets fired but assuming nobody does then Parcells, of course. Assuming Tannenbaum gets fired too. He could probably be coaxed back one more time to turn this team around. Maybe for 2 years.
Tannenbaum shouldn't get fired, he's a good GM, their drafts have been fantastic. Mangini gets one more season. After we go 2-14 this year, if he doesn't go at least 500 next year he's gone.
Well then we disagree. Payton is not getting fired after one bad year. Neither is mangini. Cowher had a few bad years in Pitt and didnt get fired. The thing thats bothering me thisyear is Manginis resistance to change. Not only the QB but playing calling, philosophy -- he has preached consistency so much that he believes that any change is a show of weakness. That was the problem with herm. (Look at the KC v Indy game last year -- he REFUSED to change anything and his team went down quietly)
its not mangini, its the limited play calling, he is forced to call short pass plays because of pennys unability to throw deep.
Who ever is pushing to fire the coach should really reserve the non-sense for maybe next year! It won’t happen. We learned two things yesterday. 1. We can run the Ball (Thanks Mr. Jones) 2. The Quarter back is the problem. 120 passing and a pick. It’s obvious they took the ball out of Chad’s hands yesterday but that didn’t stop him from throwing a pick (Par for the course). How do you throw jump balls on an out pattern that’s not in the end zone? How do you then throw another lobber that’s not fast enough to beat the tight coverage (Draped across his back) I the end zone. Maybe Mangini deserves the criticisms but he will not be fired. God I hate Mondays now!
JetBlue, I think your jumping the gun with this talk of firing Mangini. I realize you're frustrated, but the guy is coming off of a 10-6 season. He should certainly be held accountable for this poor start, but I don't think a 1-5 start is worthy of being fired. - Tony I agree Tony - this is a bit drastic. Now I'm the first to admit I'm not happy with what I see. I think Mangini is being a bit too rigid in his thinking - and not just with the quarterback situation. I also see improvement in the Oline and in some other areas. We could be 4-2 or at worst 3-3 with a better job of throwing touchdowns. I'm looking for more from the Man-genius - but I'm not ready to jump ship entirely...or make a coaching change - that is far too reactive.
We can go 1-15 and Mangini is back next year. Woody didn't hire a first year HC & GM expecting them to get the job done in two years. Mangini is here for the long haul, this team needs better talent, not a new HC again.
Mangini is the one playing Penny, so any inability of Chad's that results in an ineffective strategy is a direct result of Mangini's decision making. Mangini is the head coach of a 1-5 team -- a team that is 1-5 as a direct result of his decision making. obviously I don't think he will be fired this year, but the blame for the team's performance lies with him, not the coordinators and not with Chad. they do what he tells them to do. so replacing coordinators isn't the key, and if Mangini won't replace Chad, than the only alternative is to replace Mangini.
