I, like everyone else, saw a LOT of flaws with the playcalling this season. But I have mixed feelings about the Mangini firing. On the one hand, I am a proponent of keeping a coach around for a long time so he can build the team how he wants it, which takes time.

Also, when I look around the league at coaches like Dick Juaron and Romeo Crennel and our old friend Herm, I'm comforted by the fact that, while Mangini's decisions can often be questionable, he never does anything egregiously dumb. Did you see in the Pats-Bills game when the Bills had 18 seconds on the clock and no time outs and ran the ball??? I mean, that's just plain retarded and it's something Mangini would have never done. So my basic point is, it can be worse. But it can definitely be better too.

Either way, this team is going nowhere next year if Favre comes back.

Gruden had basically the same collapse in Tampa that we just had, and his Super Bowl win came from a Dungy-built team.

Unless we get Cowher I am not in fabor of this move and like I told you guys when you ran Herm out of town we will be going back into that vicious cycle of HC's every 3 years or so. We are slowly turning back into the pre '97 Jets.

I just heard on the NFL Network that Adam Schefter is reporting that there is absolutely no way that Cowher returns this season. I know people will still say "well, money talks" but when Schefter reports something, it's usually pretty accurate.

I agree. I think Mangini got ruined by the fact that Favre was here. Lost some of his control. I would have rather seen him stay.

I strongly feel that Gruden is a hack. That being said, we could do worse . . .

If that's the case then I guess he won't be coming here. Jets still need to at least pursue it though.

IMHO... we will see the following names over the next few weeks...

    Leslie Frazier - Vikings DC
    Bill Cowher
Raheem Morris - Bucs DB Coach
    Rex Ryan - Ravens DC
    Rob Ryan - Raiders DC
    Spagnuola - Giants DC

Outside chances due to name recognition... Billick, Fassel, Ron Rivera

I don't expect to see any NCAA coaches.

I agree, forget having an office for the HC, we need to build them a castle!

With the way everyone thinks Woody is just out to sell PSLs, I'm inclined to believe it must be a big name coach. If it ain't Cowher, I'm afraid it might be one of those "name recognition" dudes you mentioned.

I'm afraid so as well... we might even be stuck with Marty-ball...

Cowher has said today he doesn't want the Cleveland job. Somebody said he may want to sit out another year but that may be posturing. Shottenheimer(sr.) might not be a bad choice if they can't get Cowher.

No one here would be happy with Fassel, very few Billick. Too conserative.

Some cheap-ass rookie with no business coaching an NFL team?

I think I am going to throw up looking at that list. There are about 2 good names on there- Spagnuola and Cowher and I don't think either will coach the Jets.

Josh McDaniels is going to get a fair amount of press too.

I'm a big Gruden fan, but I'd want to see what Bucs fans thought of him before going all-in there.
