Absolutely not. If they are going to trade for a backup the only one you trade for is mike Glennon who has proven he can play in the NFL. 19:9 TD:INT ratio in '13
I'd be game depending on the price to obtain him. Good upside and was a QB I wanted to take a flier on as a developmental QB. If Fitz goes elsewhere or continues to price himself high someone like Mettenberger is a valid option to come in and compete on a 100% best man wins competition in camp. Addendum. I'd make an offer that's based on contingency on the 2017 draft. If the Jets cut him before the 2016 season begins the Titans get a 6th round pick in 2017. If he's on the roster as a back up in 2016 they get a 4th. If he's on the roster and starts 50% or more of games they get a 3rd in 2017 If he plays 80% of snaps or more they get a 2nd, completes 60% or better and has more TD's than int's they get a 2nd in 2017. It's a safe offer all around, if the Jets play him 80% or more of snaps then he's worth the 2nd.
Trading for a young qb with upside would be logical. That has nothing to do with what we are talking about here though
I love Petty. In a fantasy world I would love to pit him against Mett. In an über fantasy world I would love to pit him against McCarron. 3 years from now all 3 are starting QBs in the NFL. _
Very vague, but in theory you're correct. He's a big armed quarterback, like Glennon, that is better at throwing the ball down field than making quick short reads. We don't have a legitimate deep threat on the roster. Then again we don't have a legitimate quarterback at the moment either....
No... No... No... He is not a 1st or 2nd round player and is not rated as high as Petty was last year, so why do it? He is raw and not consistently accurate. Give Petty a shot before wasting a day 1 or day 2 draft pick on a QB.
Whoa whoa whoa. I love Petty. Mett came out of no where his senior season and was throwing absolute lasers and but for him tearing his ACL his last game he would have been a late 1st early 2nd rounder. In a massive QB class. The dude is hugely talented. Big, strong, massive arm, can be accurate, but not very mobile. I'd take Petty over him in a second but I would not sneeze at Mett and I'd take him over Geno in a nanosecond. _
Petty looks good but let's be honest we have a very small sample size of action. I'm really looking forward to seeing him in the pre season this year. As for Mett vs McCarron vs Petty. I would love to say Petty but we haven't seen enough to give him the nod. Mett was brutal last season.. Although he didn't have a lot to work with and there was a coaching change that was a messed up situation. McCarron was well coached both at Bama and in Cinci. He really looked good when Dalton went down and I believe that if he won that PO game that the Bengals so badly want we would be talking about Dalton on the trading block!
