LF9 no offense but this is what I do not get , who in their right mind starts a rebuild in year 3 or 4 of taking over ? Shouldn't that start in year 1? I mean people want to throw out Macs first draft because it was Bradways personel I get that but in the next breath we are going to still give Mac a pass in year 4 ? With this O line ? I think our Linebackers are pathetic as well but this is just my opinion we will see how this all plays out as in 1 week it gets real
No playoff mandate for me, but they have to win more than 5 games with this roster barring major injuries. They were a 7 win team last year had McCown not gotten injured.
You didnt bring it up? "Just wait until we go 6-10 and Chris Johnson talks about "progress", "improvement", "patience", no playoff mandate and GM and HC extensions. You know it's coming."
I agree that a playoff mandate this year wouldn't make any sense, as we are starting a rookie QB. I don't agree this is year 2 of a rebuild tho. If Mac believes in building thru the draft, he's had 4 drafts now. 'Rebuilding' to me is just a media and fan buzz term, just like 'tanking' and 'franchise QB'.
No, we stocked the team with vets like Revis, Cromartie, Marshall, etc in year 1. Year two they were still on the team and the Jets moved forward hoping to build on a 1o win team. After the vets fell off the map an it was apparent they werent going anywhere with that team and approach they stripped the lineup of the vets, went with lots of kids and started the rebuild in earnest. We're in year two
Yep. That would be after we go 6-10 this year. That would lead to next year. Next year would not be year 2 of the rebuild.
None taken. He wasnt hired to rebuild though. He was initially brought in to improve on a roster that Idzik left without players at many positions and with tons of cap space that they (Woody) saw as a quick fix. And lets face it, it sort of worked short term, we won 10 which usually punches you a ticket into the playoffs. I unfortunately lead to year two where there was the thought that with a few tweeks we could make the playoffs. As most in the media predicted.
We are not in year 2 of anything. Signing vets is completely independent of drafting, and is not mutually exclusive. Rebuilding is all fan speak. We are in year 1 of Darnold tho.
We actually agree on this. What I was trying to say, and obviously anyone can disagree with this, is that if we only improve by a game or so I don't want to hear any more about how we are headed in the right direction, or we are showing Improvement, and I certainly don't want to see GM's our coaches extended anymore. There needs to be some considerable Improvement this year. I know we are playing a rookie, but back-to-back 5 and 11 Seasons followed up by 6 and 10 or Worse will absolutely not do the trick anymore considering how long the GM and the coach have been here at this point.
What does this mean? The insinuation is that there should be a playoff mandate. And there absolutely shouldnt be one this year. You want to see coaching growth and a team that plays hard while showing itself to be improved. If not Bowles will truly be on the hot seat, as he should be
Whatever dude, we're in year two to anyone who watches the team. Signing vets the way the Jets did in year one absolutely is indicative of a team not rebuilding The draft, who doesnt draft whether theyre rebuilding or not, has nothing to do with anything. Fanspeak? No a full out rebuild. Long overdue
OK, then we do agree. I dont want to see anyone extended either but they had to be extended after last season as it was year 1 of the rebuild. Good part it is by the time theyre due for their next deal we'll know what we have
imo, one cannot officially rebuild a team unless yo have the essential parts in place - one of course being a leader taking the snaps. If absent, success will be a long steep hill to climb. Up til now Mac was not able to find his man for this spot. With Darnold, the rebuild is in the early stages. A few other missing pieces - 2 pro-bowl caliber tackles, a pass rushing DE/LB and a go to stud WR, this team will be a legit contender.........easier said than done
Sam Darnold, Nathan Shephard, Leonard Williams, Jamal Adams, Marcus Maye, Brandon Shell, Eli Mcguire, Jordan Jenkins, Lachlan Edwards, Darron Lee, etc. All guys that are starters. Let's ignore all the moves in the off-season also. Plus guys like Cannon, ArDarius Stewart, Leggett, Herndon.
When I am getting paid millions as the Jets’ GM, I will gladly provide my list of draftees contemporaneously so hindsight is not a factor. At the moment Mac hold this prestigious position and by the measures available to us, he’s not been great.
We signed a lot of vets and high priced FA's this year. So by your logic I guess we are no longer rebuilding at all. See the contradiction in the 'rebuilding' logic? FA and the draft is not mutually exclusive. Both are necessary. I like Mac, and give him credit where it's due. He's 4 drafts into "rebuilding" this team tho, not 2.
I think the Jags have been drafting well recently. Historically Greenbay has always drafted well. Since Ron Wolfe they rarely sign big time free agents and have used the draft the replenish season by season.
