our roster isnt good enough to win a superbowl without a top notch qb. but basicall what you said anyhow.... so with that being the case, making win now moves is idiotic. everything should be geared around creating a system of sustained success. developing young players in quality starters and continuting that draft by drafting well. thats is how you build a winner... you create a model of sustained success so that when you DO get a good qb, everything else is in place for a 5-6 year run at a title
I can't speak for him, but what I would consider now moves. Letting Muhammad Wilkerson play the year under franchise tag( with no intention of signing him to longterm deal. Paying a Jag Qb Ryan Fitzpatrick in excess of 10 million dollars this year - isn't going to take the Jets where they want to go. These now moves are an illusion to give the fans a hope they can be a playoff team in 2016. Honestly if you look at situation correctly , it's hard to see the Jets in the playoffs this year either. First schedule much tougher, and there are teams in the Afc that have gotten a lot better than the Jets have. I would have let Wilkerson walk( drop the franchise tag- he's going to walk after this year anyway. I would have went with the three Qb's on the roster now( Smith, Petty, and Hackenburg). Try to develop one for 2017. As poster correctly alluded to we aren't going anywhere without a Qb.( Fitzpatrick can only take you so far- why it's silly to waste anymore time.
signing a glorified backup to a 12M deal. bringing in 30+ year olds. not either cutting/trading/extending wilkerson.
I liked Pace, but what would be the point of bringing him back? Yes, its possible he's still better than Mauldin/Jenkins, but who cares. Is Pace going to win us more games by being on the field? No. Bowles has got to let some of the younger guys compete. Keep our cap clean for next year because maybe theres even a chance we could resign Mo, who knows.
I tend to agree. He's been a very solid Jet. But's he's virtually useless at this point. I'd rather watch the youngsters make mistakes, than pocket passers have a chance at beating Pace to the edge. Could be a locker room move though. It's why I wish the NFL would expand the friggain roster already. It's so hard to keep around good locker room mentors with only 53 spots. Add 3 spots, not only for that reason but for special teams. No team wants to play their starting middle linebacker on the punt return team, yet a lot are forced to play some starters there.
