I wouldn't say that the OL was "ignored" this off season. Mac signed Carpenter, Brewer, Hilliard & Wesley Johnson as FAs, re-signed Colon & Ijalana, drafted Harrison, tried out several OL, and signed the Hooey kid. Idzik had added Aboushi, Dozier & Winters. I don't know how Brent Qvale came to the team, i.e., whether that was an Idzik or Mac move. Hopefully, between the added competition and talent, different blocking schemes, and better coaching and offensive scheme, the line will play much better this season. Still, with Suh and Buffalo's DL, it will need to improve and Mac will need to continue to add young talent. If you're expecting Mac to use a bunch of high draft picks on the OL, I think you're going to be very disappointed and frustrated. He is on record as saying that he thinks high draft picks should not be used on the OL, that he thinks a very good OL can be built with mid-round draft picks, low-round draft picks, FAs, and UDFAs. I think he'll have to use a #1 pick to find Brick's replacement, and will either use a #2 or #3 pick on the new RT or will sign a FA. I'm hoping that Harrison winds up being a MAJOR steal and nails down one of the OG spots, and that if Carpenter doesn't prove to be a quality OG at the other, that Dozier or Aboushi will. That will leave the OTs to be addressed next offseason.
Most of the recently signed guys can be cut after year 1 per overthecap.com. It seems like if the FO needs to clear $30 million in cap to make moves next year, its very possible. Cromartie and D'Brickishaw together are $18 million and Couples and Giacomni are $12 million, thats $30 million right there.
Actually he didn't if you look at the contracts. They are brilliantly structured. The deals were pay as you go deals that do not impact future cap space almost at all. They just have big numbers associated with them.
I never want to hear dewayne Robertson and Leonard Williams in the same sentence again. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Cannot start soon enough! I always remember May-June being the worst wait. At least in Feb-April wait, you get free agency and a draft. Now there is literally nothing until late June when training camp starts.
It's a bit of a wait, but it's fun dumping on the Pats with the Shady scandal and poor Truth4U dealing with his suspension. Kudos to this Forum. More amusing than Great Adventure.
Well, you would hope our OL will take it up a notch to keep up with the SOA during training camp or they will collapse like a cheap suit. This camp will tell us plenty as to the health of the OL, hugely important considering they will be facing some bad boys with the Fish, the Bills, and even the deflators. Like I said before, the D will be a monster, and Leonard will soon become the Lion king of the front four. Hope they teach our OL a thing or two.
Nice post LAJet. I want those very same thing but I hope #7 will be one of those gone by the wayside. Hopefully he stays healthy enough so thatthe Jets can trade him and get something for him. Honestly I don't see a spot for Milliner in this defense. Nickel is taken and I'm hoping like you say some undrafted free agent cracks the back up CB position or even one. The other M*A*S*H unit CB McDougle I would like to see more in training camp and preseason. Hope we can push Pace off the roster also. He has declined bad and I was real surprised they resigned him.
Salas signed w the lions. I am super amped to see training camp unfold!! We've got some true depth and true talent. For once we aren't talking about competition by way of let's see if any of these turds turn to gold. We've got gold and which gold will be worth more. I love it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thanks. Agree with Pace. The M*A*S*H secondary will be probably scrutinized as to where we go from here. Milliner is on a very short leash, although he showed promise In the later games before he got hurt. He needs to show consistency and step it up plenty. I still hold hi hopes for Mc Dougle.
Milliner is a bigger X factor than it seems...he's taken the back burner bc of the new players at the position but im so glad you brought it up. Imagine if Milliner takes a step forward and stays healthy in a reduced role? That secondary will be OUT OF CONTROL. Plus McDougle as a #5 is plenty fine. A poor mans Skrine.
