Most of the contract money signed this offseason is not guaranteed past 2016, Macc made some excellent contracts

If I'm not mistaken, I believe that a lot of those FA contracts were one-year deals, or were done such that the Jets could cut them after a year or two without any dead money issues. If Marshall becomes a headache or doesn't produce as expected, he is one of those guys who could be one and done. Unless Brick does a complete turnaround this season, he will take a HUGE paycut or be gone. I wouldn't worry about the cap just yet.

It's always a balancing act splitting reps for the sake of competition vs having your men ready to go. Even more so when you factor in a new play book on both sides of the ball.

I live to see Cumberland get cut, but I am afraid it will not happen. To me, he is the epitome of a fake football player.

I don't think he really did. I think he has outs from a lot of these contracts. And if he can draft guys that he wants in the next year or two he will cut the players loose that he signed. That will replenish cap space down the line.

Do you think Gailey will see thru that? We need a no shit blocking TE that can catch to compliment Amaro

Salas is a free agent who has not been resigned - given they have 11 WRs already in camp and the possession / slot role is filled multiple times I do not see him being signed bar multiple injuries

Going to be interesting to see who wins the slot job Kerley or Smith. The Geno/Fitz race will be interesting too, my gut tells me Geno wins it but who knows... That D is nasty people don't even understand how important Demario Davis will be this year.

I doubt Smith can even play the slot

Exactly, a big guy who actually likes contact. Cumberland could play in a tux.

LOL! I wish I had some mad photoshop skills! I can just see him in a tux (black or forest green) with the number on the back of the jacket. Might as well give him one of those frilly tux shirts that were popular in the '70's. The bow tie should, of course, be forest green regardless of tux color, and perhaps on each side of the bow, in the wide area, it could say "Jets". Instead of a helmet he could have on a top hat or a derby.

    Any one?

Definitely agree with the OP. As a minor aside, with the Jets staying in FloP for camp, it'll be a hell of a lot easier to get to see them (as opposed to going to central NY). Go green!

unfortunately all of our TE's could play in a tux.

none of them block, cannot play well inline, cannot play H-back, and offer little value to special teams.
they are neither tough, nor versatile, which is a problem.

Its not so much the cap itself but who is going to replace the players most likely taking the cut (D'Brick, Mangold, Cro, Marshall). They really need to focus on getting top O linemen the next few years or it may not matter much who is at QB.

Yes there are outs. The issue is the replacement to those outs aren't currently on the roster.

True. That's why I REALLY hoped the Jets would get Brick's replacement in this year's draft. Alas, it wasn't meant to be. Mangold will hopefully have another 2-3 good years, but if not, I have some hope that Dalton Freeman will be ready to take his place. Even if Smith pans out, he may not be a true #1 like Marshall, so we'll probably be looking at getting another WR. Many of us were hoping for a #1 WR prospect in this draft, but like the LT position, it wasn't to be. We knew that all of our holes couldn't be fixed this offseason, so we just have to be thankful for all of those that were fixed, and hope that more of the holes can be fixed or closed next offseason. I'm hoping that Milliner and/or McDougle will be able to stay healthy and prove that they can be Cro's replacement.

This is why I think all the talk that this is a "win now" team are silly. Yes, we have some older vets on whom the window is rapidly closing for a SB run. That's unfortunate for them. I don't think we should try to rush things and don't want Mac to go all in just because we have some older vets. I want him to be smart, go BPA and make sound reasonable moves building the team for the long run. We'll challenge for the Lombardi trophy when we're ready to challenge and have a QB whose level of play can enable that, not before.

Yeah I question how long the offensive line can be ignored until its a real problem. As a mentioned in posts before, we hopefully see Aboushi become a good guard for us. Other than him, we need to get younger and better and soon. Mac did get us another guard in the draft who could start opposite of Aboushi if we're lucky. That leaves a the tackles as a major need for 2016 IMO.

Anyone else notice Leonard Williams was given an OL number?
