Hi, I'm another Bills fan. I've been around for a while, I post occasionally, but mostly I lurk. I haven't seen much of the Jets, and am familiar with them in only a general way (as opposed to Miami which I know very well, and which I predicted the Bills would beat after watching them in preseason). I thought I'd put out some thoughts about the matchups as I get more familiar with your team, but here are some keys about the Bills that you should be watching for. 1. The Bills' strength so far has been its pass D, despite playing 2 rookie safeties and 5 rookies total for most of both games. In the first half against NE and all game against Miami, the Bills DL and LBs successfully got after the QB. I don't think they'll change that strategy. Against Miami, 2 or 3 of their sacks were coverage sacks, so they can blanket receivers, too, even though they have 2 rookie safeties. 2. The Bills' ST are awesome. It wouldn't be out of line to say they won the Miami game. Punter Brian Moorman put the ball inside the 17 5 times, 4 times inside the 10. ST captain Coy Wire blocked a punt. Roscoe Parrish had about 100 yards in returns. Rian Lindell was 3 for 3 on FGs. Miami always had a long field. Most of Buffalo's drive starts were outside the 25, and in the second half, outside their 35 or better. 3. The Bills defensive weakness is the run defense, but they were better against Miami than NE. Hopefully, this is because the defenders played better not because Miami's OL is dreadful. We'll see if they can shut down the Jets this week. 4. The Bills not only can run the ball, they will run the ball. Unlike the Carp, the Bills won't give up on the run just because McGahee gets stopped short a couple of times. The Bills also have Anthony "A Train" Thomas who has done well in spelling Willis. 5. JP Losman is a young QB, but he isn't a kid with a million dollar arm and a 50 cent brain. He's a very coachable youngster, and has improved just over the course of the preseason into a poised, professional. That's not saying he can't be rattled and won't make mistakes, but I think he will surprise you. If the Jets can't get a good pass rush, he will burn you long to Evans or Price or Parrish.
When do you think that might happen? We heard all these wonderful superlatives about JP before he ever played a down of football. Then, when he sucked the life out of all of western New York and most of Canada, you ALL jumped off the bandwagon. Now he's suddenly Montana again? I'm going to have to start keeping one of those Champ excel spreadsheets to keep track of these things. Aw hell, welcome anyway.
Just a question for the Bills fans. Now that the Jets have officially ceded NYS to the Bills has this game lost a little luster?
cant wait til sunday, should be a good game...we need to make sure the buffalo special teams gets nothing
Yeah Buffalo special teams is dangerous with roscoe parrish and moorman but don't count out our special teams with Washington, Miller, and Graham.
It already has. Losman's improved in his passing technique and his decision making. He hasn't thrown an INT. Don't be fooled by low passing stats or the fact that the Bills haven't gone downfield yet. The Bills want to be a run-first team, and they will run until they're stopped, especially if they can get a lead, so I don't expect Losman to put up Peyton Manning-like numbers -- or even Chad Pennington numbers. The Pats were looking for Losman to go long because that's what the Bills did in preseason (they had 4 or 5 40+ yard passes in preseason compared to only 9 in 16 games in 2005!), so the coaching staff went shorter. The one time Losman threw long against Miami, Will Allen tackled Lee Evans at the 4 to prevent a 50+ yard TD (and got PI for his trouble). On the next play, Losman threw to Josh Reed for the TD, so the Bills got the yards and score but Losman was only credited with 4 yards for the TD. Another, shorter TD pass to Roscoe Parrish was negated by offensive PI against another Bills WR.
Field position will be key in the Jets/Bills game.. the Bills will try to keep the pressure off of JPL by focusing on keeping the Bills Offense between the 30 yard line s- enabling the Bills Field goal kicker to continue his steady play as the main scoring option. As long as JP continues to progress and make good decisions in the pass game then Willis and A-Train should be able to take the load against the Jets with 30+ rush attempts to control time of possession and wearing down the Jets defense. I hope to see JP only have 15-20 pass attempts Sunday, thats a sign that the game is a defensive struggle and not an offensive shootout which would favor Penny and the Jets Offense that are coming off of back-to-back 300 yd passing games. 300 yds against this Bills defense wont be an easy task.
Losman is still making mistakes. He paid for one in the Bills/Pats game by taking the safety. He didn't pay for one in the Dolphins game when he was sacked and tried to throw or fumble the ball 10 yards behind the line in the 1st half. That could have been a huge turnaround in the game. However, it was just a sack. Jauron responded to that play by not letting Losman throw the ball inside the redzone on the next series. In fact, the coaching staff is significantly helping Losman cut down on his mistakes by not putting him in a position to do anything stupid.
I think someone fed you some false information. Losman threw 23 times in week 1 and 18 times in week 2... thats more than 15 times a game.
Here's Losman's stats against Mangini's defense last year Code: GAMEDATE Opp RESULT Att Comp Pct Yds TD Int Rate Sac Yds 12/11 NE L 7-35 27 10 37 181 1 3 33.6 2 12
well he had a bunch of 2nd stringers in his defensive backfield that got 3 INT's. He's game planned Losman and has been sucessful. anything else?
Losman is still Losman. He's throwing for 6 yds an attempt. Is this supposed to scare us?? Some offense...they're ranked 31st in the NFL  Dick Jauron's an offensive juggernaut
You do realize against the Pats Losman was 15-23 for 164 yards, so I would hardly say the staff is scared to let him throw it. The reason why he didnt throw it so much against the Carp was because that was our gameplan. We wanted to control the clock and run the football. It was an effective game plan that gave us a easy win over the Carp.
Oh, I got plenty more. Don't you think the NEPats -)) d-line contributed to the 2nd stringers in the def. backfield being able to do the job?...........and Manginis game-planning vesus Buffalo with the Pats will offer him little help in this weeks game plan. You build a game plan around your players. Though they struggled early last year, the Pats still had players that can stop the run and get to the QB. The Jets haven't shown the ability to do either this year. Add to that the fact that McGahee has killed the Jets in his short career and it adds up to trouble.
Dont worry, Ill chalk this one up to ignorance. Losman is more poised, more mature, and Turk Schonert has corrected his footwork, something sam wyche refused to do. Losman is more confident and better at game management. Offense is ranked 31st in yards... Culpepper had a bunch of yards last week but how many points did that equal? Jauron is not the coach of the offense, Steve Fairchild is... so your last point is moot... Like I said, Ignorance
