This kind of logic is dumb as hell. You can't base this years picks on Idzik's logic or Tannenbaum's logic. You can only base it on Mac's previous drafts.
It sucks that we're all invested in this team as this league sucks more and more and has seen better days. I really hate the NFL in a lot ways, and enjoy other sports more overall at this point, even the NBA . But we love the Jets and can't quit her. Putting everything in perspective and having outside interests and/or a hobby is key
Yeah, I 100% agree. Social media has changed things drastically for the worse I think. The whole thing sucks, the TV coverage too. Even a lot of the shit they're selling on there is sickening.. It's a total sellout When it was at it's worst with Rex and Idzick I cut most of it off, and started to get back to just enjoying it if I can. I like watching teams try to rebuild and that kept me from baling altogether. I come here to catch up with what's happening and pay attention to the FA' s and draft. Even that is not as much fun as it used to be. People should try and form their own opinions as much as possible
You can base it off of 2nd round picks not panning out in general. You can also base it off the fact the Jets simply do not hit on 2nd round picks. You can also base it off the fact we have not had a 2nd round pick make the Pro Bowl since 1979.
i know in general we sucked in the 2nd round, but mac is at least 1 for 3 (maye) so missing out on a maye like prospect absolute sucks
Regardles of what side your opinion of this trade lies, history of the 2nd round pick should have no bearing on whether you think the trade is good or not. For that matter, we haven't been good at drafting QBs historically either.
Yay...abyzmul is back. And as positive as ever. They are essentially giving up 2 second rounders. The third was stolen by Mac in a great trade. Kearse for Sheldon straight up would have been a good trade. Two second round picks for a very good QB talent in a league that is quarterback driven. Sounds good to me. How is this unprecedented? Many people said the Eagles gave up too much to go from 8 to 2 for Wentz. They gave up way more than the Jets did, and I don’t think that fan base is complaining. I think this was a very good move by Mac.
One of the main reasons we suck right now is that we do not draft well on day two and we never pick offense on day one. The answer to the problem is not trading away 2nd round picks. The answer to the problem is drafting offense more often in the 1st round and hitting a lot more of our 2nd and 3rd round picks. I'm ok with this trade up if we get a FQB out of it however I'll be really pissed if we go full Tanny and start trading picks every year for vets and trades up. All that does is get us a "cotton candy on the tongue" sweet taste that lasts for a season or two and then has us eating mud for a few years after that.
I hate to disagree with you bartscott, but actually if you analyze the trade in 2016, Philly didn't give up more than the Jets. Please see the analysis below discounting future picks by one round per year per pick in the future to come up with some sort of equivalent value of future picks (I realize this isn't exact science). The Eagles moved up six spots in the first round from #8 to #2 in what many considered a two QB class in 2016 (twice as many spots as the Jets in 2018). The Eagles gave up: 1) a first rounder in 2017 (that's like a 2nd rounder in 2016 - equivalent to one of the Jets 2nd rounders this year). 2) a third rounder in 2016 (that's like a 2nd rounder in 2017 - equivalent to the Jets 2nd rounder in 2019) 3) a fourth rounder in 2016 4) a second rounder in 2018 (that's like a fourth rounder in 2016). So in essence, the Eagles moved up twice as many spots as the Jets and their "extra cost" was the equivalent of two fourth rounders in 2016 vs. the Jets 2nd rounder in 2018. I don't know. I look at the Eagles trade and say that they got better value. Of course, you could argue that discounting one round per pick per year in the future is too much of a discount. However, that is what I have heard others claim when analyzing trades in the past. IMHO to state that the Eagles gave up way more than the Jets doesn't seem right to me.
