You also have to question the fact that Shady will no longer be in a zone-blocking scheme. How effective will he be in a more power running offense?
Great move by Rex. He brings in a great RB and probably will bring Harris with him anyway so he'll fill the LB spot as well. If he made moves half that smart with us he'd still be around. Sidenote: REALLY not looking forward to going up against Shady twice a season.
I'm a bit surprised the Eagles gave McCoy up given their time frame to win, which is now, and the fact that he is so good in space. That's exactly what you want in a spread option back, a guy who can pound it up the middle and also take an outlet 50 yards.
per ESPN ""The trade also removes McCoy's $11.95 million number from the Eagles' salary cap. Kelly's outlook was summarized by recently-released guard Todd Herremans in a radio interview Monday. Herremans said basically that Kelly prioritizes the quarterback and the offensive line. "Other than that," Herremans told 97.5 The Fanatic, "I think that Kelly feels like he can kind of -- you know, the system will take care of it." In other words, McCoy's great 2013 and very good 2014 were, in Kelly's view, reflections of his offensive system. That system will be successful with other running backs, all of whom will cost less than the $11.95 million McCoy was going to count against the Eagles' salary cap."" I understand some people might not agree with me, but I personally think Kelly is a genius innovator. This was just a cost-benefit analysis. They need defense more than they need an expensive RB, especially in that system.
I could've sworn we were a top 5 defense last year without Alonso........could be wrong tho. The people calling this trade bad for the Bills because we traded a good young LB fail to realize we actually got better on defense last year without him. The key to our defense is Mario, Kyle and Dareus and always was/will , Brown and Bradham had great years last year because those guys up front grabbed so much attention. We re-sign Hughes and the defense is the same defense from last year + McCoy on offense.......that sounds alot better then having the same defense as last year + Alonso but with the same RBs on offense which were apart of one of the worst rushing offenses in Buffalo Bills history!
Some of you guys act as if we have no LBs on our defese at all Bradham - 104 tackles 2.5 sacks 1 int 2 ff Brown - 109 tackles 1 int
Of course it did...........the other 14 games our defense was downright dreadful A. Rodgers - 17/42 185 yds 0td 2int P. Manning - 14/20 173 yds 0td 2int M. Stafford - 18/31 231 yds 1td 1int
I read something about issues, one of which was that McCoy resented practicing Saturdays. He thought it took away his burst. I wonder?
If Chip Kelly turns into my way or the highway the odds are he's going to see a decline in his results.
I am curious if that lost "burst" McCoy was talking about has nothing to do with Saturday practices. I guess Kelly wants to die with his guys. He can always go back to college. A lot of HCs do not have that luxury. He is comfortable in both venues.
true. i think Alonzo will struggle taking on lineman head to head in the run game. he's not that type of LB imo.. much better playing in space.
If Rex gets to coach against Geno twice this year, i expect the Bills D rankings to really vault. let's hope we're putting a different QB out there this year.
meh these days, teams are in sub packages most of the time anyway ... i think having 3-down linebackers is more important than them being able to take on linemen
I agree LM isn't washed up but he's on a downtrend. Comparing him to himself is the issue--he's still a very good rb but that jumping around slipperiness is not there anymore based upon my observations.
