if the jets wanted him that bad there would be a contract in place.... im sure there are other options out there... have to admit i would of loved to see the jets get dawkins also
i wouldnt be all that upset with elam starting....the only problem i have is that he really lacks speed...but he always finds himself positioned in the right place at the right time
how is it that everyone can have such a hardon for a guy who only started 13 games last year. is a 4th year player who was undrafted, not good enough to stick around on the buffalo bills. has a grand total of 141 tackles in his illustrious 4 year career. has 3 interceptions. 9 passes defensed and is a grand total of 5'8" what exactly makes him so great that everyone is wet in their panties in ganggreenland? i just dont understand the fascination. is there no other answer?
Agreed. Leonhard is more than likely just lightning in a bottle via playoff run. The FO probably realizes this and that's why they didn't come to terms when Leonhard's agent demanded an unreasonable contract. Get Sean Jones!!!!
I read a few Ravens boards in the past couple of weeks and the Ravens passed on him for a couple of similar depth guys already on their roster, I think he over-values himself. The fact that they let him go without a contract is an indictment on how high or low Ryan values him.
Imo, too much of a gamble to count on him. Even if the Jets move Lowery to safety, which I agree sounds like a good idea, the secondary is still thin. Who is the nickel back right now? If Leonhard wanted too much, maybe the Jets will draft a safety.
well actually they drafted Dawan Landry to be a career safety next to ed reed. hes coming back so leonhard is expendable. I thnk leonhard is a good player, good speed, good punt return skills, good technique tackling, and a definite ballhawk. that being said, im sure they watch us give Scott that amount of money and Leonhards agent asked for a contract hes obviously not worth. I wanted him here, but not if we overpay plain and simple. more importantly moving on I'd like to see what Rex could do with a hard hitter like Abram Elam. either way theres some good tweeners at CB/S this year in the draft too. we'll see what happens.
I'm glad to see the Jets not overpay for a marginal starter. I'd like to see Leonhard join the team but only at a reasonable price. And if Leonhard doesn't see the benefit of playing on a potentially dominating Jets defense, then so be it. Go with Elam or some other FA. Leonhard is not some kind of young All Pro player that we need to overpay for.
Well said, he is a system player (our system). I would like him as well, he knows the defense and excelled in it. That being said, he has marginal talent and should be paid as an elite starter. Let him look around, if the big deal is there for then he should take it. If it is not, then I hope he does come here at a the right price.
I don't understand posts like this one. "Everyone"? Not hardly. It's pretty simple. Ryan likes him. He played well last year, especially in the playoffs. He should come cheaply, and he knows the system. I don't see anyone, nevermind everyone whining that he left without signing. If we don't sign him, we'll get another safety, and one that might be better than Leonhard. Since Ryan knows him and wanted him, most people think he would be a good addition. If we don't get him, no big deal.
Good point - if Ryan didn't like him, they wouldn't have even had him come visit. Still, it had to be at the right price. It may still happen...
