I fell asleep and missed most of this game. From what I gather looking at the play-by-play and reading this thread Favre blew it by throwing a bad INT on 3rd and 15 with 19 second left when they were in position for a 55 yard FG attempt. I'm sure the Vikings will be much better without him.
When he threw the ball he had at least 5 yards of open space in front of him, maybe more, so the actual FG would have been no more than 50 yards, making the decision to throw that much worse. There also was some strange playcalling beforehand, and a boneheaded 12 men in the huddle penalty right before the INT, but of course in today's NFL it's hard to know how much (if any) of that is on the QB. Having said that, I don't see how anyone can criticize anything about his play until the second half of yesterday's game. If Tavaris Jackson is their QB they're not playing in the NFC championship game, so I see no reason to think that they'll be better without him. The issue with him is that if he can't get you to the Super Bowl, it's probably not worth it having him, since his presence makes it impossible to develop a long-term answer at QB. The Jets of last year and this year are Exhibit A of that.
Favre: "highly unlikely" I'll be back. It's Favre, of course. http://www.twincities.com/ci_14263833?nclick_check=1
what he did was very SOJ..... oh wait he's not on the Jets? So it does happen to other teams? Those heartbreaking losses... hmmm I guess SOJ is fucking bullshit in that case.
As shitty as I felt leaving the bar after the JETS game, for a brief moment there was a sense of relief cheering for the Aints. When he threw that pass I screamed "YES, karma's a bitch!" :metal: whaaawaawaaaaaa :drunk:
I think a lot of us saw this coming, no matter the season he had, it was only a matter of when. Eventually it all has to be about Brett Favre the hero and the season gets thrown away in haste. Maybe if he's still playing at 50 he'll figure it out. I'm real glad he's not our problem anymore, we know who our QB is going to be next year and he'll be working out all off-season.
Nope. His second to last pass as a Jet was a pick. Desperation drive in the final seconds: # New York Jets at 00:17 # 1-10-NYJ 1 17) (Shotgun) 4-B.Favre pass short left to 29-L.Washington to NYJ 5 for 4 yards. Lateral to 4-B.Favre to NYJ 7 for 2 yards. 4-B.Favre pass incomplete short right to 89-J.Cotchery. PENALTY on NYJ-4-B.Favre, Illegal Forward Pass, 3 yards, enforced at NYJ 7. # 2-7-NYJ 4 07) NYJ #16 Smith in at QB. (Shotgun) 16-B.Smith pass short right to 29-L.Washington to NYJ 8 for 4 yards. Lateral to 87-L.Coles to NYJ 19 for 11 yards. Lateral to 16-B.Smith to NYJ 12 for -7 yards. Lateral to 24-D.Revis to NYJ 11 for -1 yards. Lateral to 31-A.Carroll to NYJ 24 for 13 yards. FUMBLES, RECOVERED by MIA-33-N.Jones at NYJ 22. 33-N.Jones to NYJ 22 for no gain (89-J.Cotchery).
Yeah, that happened right in front of me. When Favre attempted the second forward pass, which was illegally over the line of scrimmage, he got pummeled. That's why Smith came in for the last snap.
Another great thing is that there's absolutely no doubt that we did the right thing by getting rid of him. We made it just as far (as he did) without him and we're in a much better position for the future.
