yeah but at the same time what rookie CB isn't going to play like shit being such a key component in the secondary? He was supposed to be the nickel, but he's playing a lot of #2 CB in his first couple of games in his career.Expectations have to be tempered and "playing like shit" is a subjective term most rookie CB's play like shit no matter how great they become later. it's a position that is easy to get exposed
Those questions are ones that do not reflect surprise that Wilson as a rookie is very much a work in progress. They are instead intending to point out that the weakest starter on D (with Revis out) is not only a problem now but will be for some time. How long? Revis back in the lineup and the team can go back to a more reasonable progression of development for Wilson. Having to have him out there as much as last night has its downside. In other words I think you misunderstood my point.
LOL... Spoken from the high horse.... When a QB gets as much time as Henne had last night, any CB is going to lose some battles. THE weak link on the defense right now is the PASS RUSH..... Wilson has WAYYYY more on his plate at this point than he should..... I just won't say he was terrible.... I think he was just as expected given the circumstances.... To me, the guy is relentless, on the field and off and won't stop learning and growing by the second. I bet Rex is 100% HAPPY with what Kyle Wilson is right now and what he will be.
How do you know how Rex feels about Wilson right now? Did he publically state that he is 100% happy? Kyle blew a bunch of coverages and made TWO ridiculous PI penalties on 3rd and 20+ this season that resulted in TDs for the opposing team. Whether or not he's a rookie is irrelevent because he's the #3 CB (#2 until Revis comes back).
This is what is more frustrating than everything else. He's a rook and he'll get beat, and nothing but more work will fix that, but his PIs have just been mental flaps that he wouldn't have gotten away with even in college. It's one thing to take a PI when you're obviously beat and you're essentially saving a long touchdown, it's another to draw them unnecessarily on balls that would have otherwise hit the ground several yards away. Hopefully the coaching staff really starts emphasizing this to him in practice. As for his coverage skills, as soon as he learns how to shadow his receiver using his hands to "see" the receiver's movement while using his eyes to follow the QB (watch Revis, he is the king of doing this) he will be ok. That is a very difficult skill to master, but hopefully Revis takes the time to help him out
I'll admit we got almost no pass rush for most of the game. But that doesn't excuse Wilson from literally watching guys blow by him at full speed, racing to catch up with them, and then not getting his head around. Pass rush or not, that's just bad CB play. Yes, he's a rookie. We all know this. But quit pretending like he hasn't been playing poorly. McKnight has played just as bad in games that meant nothing, and he isn't even allowed to dress. Wilson is going to lose us a game at some point if this continues...
I'm not getting the sense that certain individuals are "fanboys" or are wearing homer glasses....since nobody is denying that Wilson has made mistakes and doesn't look like a Pro-Bowler right now. During games there's been many occasions where I shake my head and say "Damn it, fuckin' Wilson." The thing is, his erratic play should be expected. Nobody should be surprised at his mistakes. He's been thrust into a difficult role for a rookie, and he's only 3 games into his career. Starting a thread like this one is like starting a thread called "OMG...I went 2 The Beach and theres nothing there but Sand and water!! WTF??" He's still learning, and, yes that can be frustrating to watch. But I'd rather he continued to learn from his mistakes and get better than for him to be benched for an inferior talent...or for him to be switched to safety (2 suggestions from posters in this thread).
Ok......... Kw and the jets will be ok. With 3 new "starters"(Wilson,Poole, and cromartie) there have been major breakdowns in coverage and communication. Kw will improve. Football is football and he has proved it on every level at every stage. Jets are 2-0 in the division without key players.no need to panic.hold your water. Vince
He's a rookie and he's playing a lot. That usually means "toast" until the game slows down. He'll be fine. He's got all the tools and he's just missing the experience to know things like if you're going to make contact with the receiver down the field you need to turn your head back at the same time.
And he was covering the TE for most of that. I'd have figured Henne would have tried to exploit the height mismatch but he mostly stayed away from that.
it is Wilson's job to perform in the system he plays. if he is unable, than that is on him if he simply isn't good enough to play in it. hoepfully he will be by end of the year.
I loooked good in the 2nd half. Give him a break tho, i remember Revis getting owned back when he was a rookie. Its only his 3rd game lol
QFT Marshall is a nightmare to cover. Big, Strong, Excellent Hands, and good speed. In my opinion he is the best possession receiver in football. He walks over teams all the time, and like stated Bess does not suck either. There is work to be done for sure but you guys act like we allowed the Bills to throw all over us...
Its not no damn homer glasses. There just dumb-azz-wholes who know nothing about football & are better suited for the art of of being closet internet faggs ????
Agreed. There's only 2 shortcomings to his game and both will be fixed in time. First is he really needs to learn how to tackle. The second, he needs more "ball awareness" by simply reading the WR and turn around when the ball is coming in. He never seems to turn around and once he learns how to do that, he'll be fine and perhaps even superior.
