Kyle Wilson was put into a terrible position from the beginning. Kyle Wilson after being drafted "Wow..I just got drafted to the #1 secondary in the NFL. I'am playing with the best cornerback, and another pro bowler. I have to play slot? Awesome. I'll learn from these two guys." Training Camp "Uhh where the fuck is Revis? oh shit." Revis Returns 1 week before game 1 "Welcome back...Thank you Revis Christ." Week 1 Ravens "Uhh fucking Anquan Boldin is pretty good... Revis can you please follow him the entire game?" Week 3 Dolphins "Okay..Revis is out...I gotta go back to right corner. " "Okay Revis is back? Wait I lost my job? fuck." etc etc etc you understand. This kid had to deal with tons of shit. hopefully we can get up by 2+scores, and give Kyle Wilson some playing time @ Browns.
Exactly, Jim is the strong safety his job is to mainly play up closer to the line and is more responsible for helping to stop the run and cover TE's. Pool or Smith at Free safety would usually be responsible for assisting in deep ball coverage. I'm sure in Rex's D though their are times this is shaken up to try and confuse the QB.
I didn't expect KW to be Lights Out this year.....but I do expect he'll improve next season. I would assume Rex's defensive scheme is a lot to digest for any rookie.
I would have hoped Wilson's natural ability would be enough to allow him to play better than freaking Drew Coleman. Hopefully by the end of the season he starts to really "get it" and is able to play more often. Because Drew Coleman is going to kill us.
I still think Kyle Wilson is gonna be a good player, maybe not this year but I expect him to develop into a very good CB and a sound investment @ pick 29. What I saw from him is a corner who does a good job staying hip to hip with his assignment, he's just not getting his head around to find the ball. I would think that proper coaching, film study and learning from Revis would help him in that area. Also he flip flopped between outside CB and nickel CB since he was drafted. If Cromartie is re-signed at the end of the season he'll be a nickel 100% and they can focus on developing him there.
I don't understand how he's not higher than Coleman on the depth chart. From what I saw he has very good man coverage skills he just needs to work on finding the damn ball when it's coming. He's not going to improve in that area from the sideline. I actually find it alarming that he's not higher than Coleman on the depth chart. Granted he's a rookie, but he's a first round pick and this is Drew fucking Coleman we're talking about.
i'm not claiming to have any insight from the coaching staff or whatever, but in my opinion he's lower than coleman bc, as much as coleman gets beat like a teenagers prick, he at least gets his head around to not get flagged for PI. while completely coachable, i just don't thin K-Dub is there yet. having said that, i can't wait for it to come together with him, our secondary has the potential to be amazing with him in there on the same page as revis and cro. i would love to see it happen by the end of season, but that's just a hope. seen too little of him lately to actually back that up with anything.
I don't know, maybe it's like when a player is recovering from an injury you don't want to play him until you're 100% sure he'll be fine on the pitch, because a second injury would be a huge set back. If his confidence is not 100% ("snakebitten"), even if he's playing better on the training pitch I wouldn't risk to put him on the pitch yet. If I remember right, last week after the onside kick, Coleman was burned out for a big gain that ended up being decissive (sp?) in the final score, I don't want KW to deal with a play like that right after he's coming back.
Agree totally.. I had hopes for Wilson to be a very useful slot corner this year to spare us having to watch Lowery and Coleman get beat up on this year and then probably step in as the starter opposite Revis next year. But now it's looking like Cro is going to be an absolute must sign next year while Wilson hopefully takes over the nickel role. I mean let's face it, we can spin this however we want to be positive, but Wilson can't even sniff the field even though his competition is Drew Coleman. Even Marquise Cole gets some snaps on D from time to time ahead of Wilson.
Once the game slows down he'll dominate. CBs rarely have a good first season, but I do wanna see him on TEs. He's shut most of them down when he's on them.
Yeah I find it hard to believe they can't find any situation to use him on defense, yet Drew Coleman is a major "contributor", Lowery plays, Cole palys, Ihedigbo plays, Eric Smith plays... and Wilson doesn't even step on the field except to fumble a punt return.
