While I certainly hope so, I'll settle for a good defensive back by the end of the season...terrific by next season.
or you know, we could take him off of Revis' learning curve... Wilson is NOT Revis. He will never be Revis. No one in the history of the NFL has ever come close to what Revis did in 09. Hell Revis' probably won't ever be Revis (circa 2009 anyways) again. Wilson is going to develop and he is going to learn. He has the best defensive minded coach in the business (my opinion anyways) in Rex. He has an exceptional DB's coach in DT. The guy is in a great system, with top tier CBs to learn from in Revis and Cro. Based on the articles we have read about his preparation, he is taking this very seriously and it will pay serious dividends in the not so distant future. Wilson has all the physical tools to become a damn good corner, and he will get there in this system with these coaches and these mentors and his work ethic, he will get there. I think Wilson will make leaps forward in the coming weeks. I bet his first INT comes week 10 against the Cleveland Browns. Suddenly the guy will be praised around the board and then people will be proclaiming how they always knew he would be great.....
I'm still honestly shocked and disgusted by the fact that this topic is still continuing on this board. We've really been spoiled by Revis and because of that we will forever put any DB on our team on that pedestal and that's just not fair or right to expect that from them. I know KW will absolutely give everything he's got to turn himself into the corner we hope he will become and will be an asset to this team for years in the future. Yes he may be struggling right now but I guarantee you he's aware of the issues at hand and is doing whats needed to make the necessary corrections. And to the guy who said he'll never be anything more than a 3rd CB I say to you that your out of your fucking mind if you actually believe that to be true. This kid has stud written all over him with Rex, DT, and Revis helping him each and every day. Everyone needs to have some patience with him and understand that CB is one of the hardest positions to translate from NCAA to NFL. But he has all the tangibles and intangibles to make that transition not only well but great but it's not something that will happen over night and some of the posters on this board need to recognize this and just shut the fuck up right now about this.
Has anyone ever told you that your level of assured optimism doesn't make you a good poster? In fact, you're one of the worst on the site. I suppose it's an accomplishment of sorts, but a rather ignominious one. 'Kyle Wilson will be terrific this year.' 'The Jets are a MORTAL LOCK to win 13 games.' 'The Jets WILL win the Super Bowl. BOOK IT.' I wouldn't be surprised to soon see you post 'LIVING WELL IS THE BEST REVENGE'. As far as Wilson, he most certainly will not be "terrific" by the end of the season. He'll have a year of experience toward what could be a VERY good career. However, with the current flaws in his game, it's going to take more than 12 more games for him to reach a status of 'very good', let alone 'terrific'. Give him time.
With how much the Jets blitz, this is a tough defensive scheme for a rookie CB. Even Cromartie when coming to Jets needed a few games to adjust & he's got years of NFL experience. Hopefully the dominoe of effect of a healthy Revis will push Wilson down to a receiver he can handle.
That may be the case but in the meantime his reps, snaps and playing time continue to diminish. http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2010/10/with_rookie_kyle_wilson_snakeb.html
Sounds like Ryan is not as high on Wilson as some fans are. I understand it is too early to say he's a bust. I agree completely. But he doesn't inspire confidence, either. He's got a way to go before he does that.
Let me dumb it down for you. Do I think Wilson has rookie issues? Yes. Do I think he will get better? Yes. Do I think he will be an effective starting corner in the NFL? Not from what I've seen and can predict. K, Princess?
The most interesting part of that article is what a good leader Drew Coleman has become. He's really improved his play recently, so hopefully he can keep it up.
Man, could this kid be any more in the doghouse? The one return that he was in on, he fumbles, luckily, recovered by the Jets. Did he even see any time on the field when we were loading the backfield with DB's? I saw Cole, saw Coleman, saw Smith, but dont' recall seeing too much of Wilson.
Imagine if him and Jmk became roommates. They'd have to call in just to find out if they're inactive otherwise, the phone would never ring at all.
I saw wilson on specials, he was on KO coverage, and the punt "block" team. But yeah, I think K-dub needs some positives. Rex needs to put the kid in a position to make a play, somehow, some way. I firmly believe all he needs is a confidence boost, and leaving him on the sidelines isnt going to help that. Next week should be a week to get him that chance. Cleveland has very few receiving weapons, and K-dub seems to play well on the big lumbering TE's. I would like to see him on Ben Watson occasionally. Let him get in there are make some plays! Not for nothing, but I have been saying it for weeks now, I think K-dub gets his first career INT week 10 against Cleveland...
During the draft we all felt the 2010 Jets would have the greatest secondary in history. Unfortunately, the Revis holdout and Wilson's sluggish start have prevented that from becoming a reality. But hey, as long as they get it together in time for the playoffs - I'll be happy. Also, my biggest concern in the secondary right now is actually Jim Leonhard. He seems to always be late on deep passes. Just seems like his instincts are off.
