This ! Wilson is atrocious out there,,,we are better off giving anyone else his spot as he is terrible ! High pick or not cut the cord on Wilson ,,,,its time.
Wilson's god awful. He's not getting cut though because Idzik loves comp picks. Best we can hope for is that his playing time goes down
Here's the thing that has run through my mind,,,yes it's only preseason but the real stuff begins soon! Remember when we were on hard knocks and we were in a similar situation when Revis was holding out ? At least at that time we had Cro but the Jets watched one too many games without 2 good CB s out there and ran to that Diner and gave Mevis what he wanted,,,the problem now is that we are not sure that we even have one starting CB for the opener let alone TWO and there is no MEVIS waiting in the wings !
Every Jet corner back last night got burnt by the Giants , so what? It happens, especially with the new rules in place...when your doing man coverage it's all the tougher. Dixon was horrible, he's not ready to start - you don't put a raw player in place of anyone, regardless of the weakness in that position. I like Wilson , he's around the ball a lot - ok maybe he'll get burnt on some plays but what CB doesn't these days in the pass happy NFL. Besides , with the Jets weak in the secondary, forget the idea of Wilson being cut. They need him -
I can't stand the way Wilson plays. I especially don't like the cushion he gives to receivers. And I am not looking forward to a season going down the drain because he's getting beaten time after time on 3rd down plays. But if we cut Wilson, do we have anyone better, or is it addition by subtraction, regardless?
Interesting point. But what will Wilson bring us... a 7th? And doesn't a comp pick depend upon him signing somewhere else? (doubtful) Besides, if he's on the team, he'll get on the field - A LOT.
Wilson's dog-chasing-car-from-behind "technique" has gotten even worse. Last night, his feet were totally static….he's just standing there…..and only when the receiver is next to his hip in the midst of passing him does he turn to chase him. From pretty much a stationary position with the receiver already in motion - of course he's not going to be able to keep up with the WR! Why Thurman and McDonald allow this Wooden Indian 'late-to-react' style is beyond me. He never, ever keeps anything in front of him. And I'm tired of his chest-beating bullshit; last night: "er Kyle?…FYI, look behind you: they just called PI….on YOU."). It started his very first game against the Ravens (ok, rookie, give him a pass), but the chest-beating continued even when Alex Smith overthrew 2 wide open WRs who had Wilson beat for TDs in that 38-0 embarrassment; last night more of the same bullshit. I'm sick of his regression, his horrible, never-addressed technique and his paper tiger showboating. Fuck him, he's a posseur. end of rant. "Hey Mr. Wilson, you STILL suck!!"
That's the thing Tony, despite us having no one else at CB, they still went after Wilson and had huge success. Are we really any better off with or without him? We've seen his ceiling, it's not high.
I'm not sure what is more astounding: how bad Wilson is, or how clueless his defenders the last few years were when anyone with even a tiny amount of football sense could see he was a complete bust. If Idzik didn't completely shit the bed this offseason, we'd have a real chance.
I think they factor in where he was drafted , his playing time and his new contract. I think given those factors assuming he plays the slot it could be pretty significant. I mean if we look at who we lost this year like Howard it netted us quite a few comp picks ( I think a fourth and two six round picks) and given Idzik didn't trade away any picks it's clearly got to be a factor on cutting guys vs letting them walk in a year.
What's interesting is how Kyle Wilson has gotten worse. He was never a great corner, but he was an average corner against #3 and #4 WR the last year and a half. He was never able to cover top WR even if they were lined up in the slot where Wilson is better. Now he's struggling to do that too, well he's a body is the only reason he's going to stay. There's no depth at corner right now.
I'm beyond finished with this guy. Beating his chest after that PI call which was so obvious my blind grandmother could have called just confirms that this guy is never going to get it. I doubt he gets cut given the CB situation but I hope he is last on the depth chart.
What's interesting that how Wilson, in this game , can be singled out for the Jets woes in the secondary? The first 3 Giants scoring drives, I monitored Wilson, and only in the 1st scoring drive, Wilson was hit for 2 receptions by an excellent WR, Cruz, who has burnt quite a few pros in his day. The TD pass to Randel, was covered by Lewis. The 2nd scoring drive, a Jets fumble result, a FB scored the TD. Giants 14 Jets 17. The 3rd Giants scoring drive, Wilson was not even on the field. Giants 24-17 - Dixon got burnt All other scoring drives, Wilson was not even on the field. Is this another example of making one player a scapegoat to cover the weakness of one area of the D? Looks that way to me..
Do you actually watch the games though? Wilson plays 15 yards off a receiver and the quarterbacks will instantly check to an out route for 8-12 yards. He plays up in a press technique he whiffs on the press and trails the receiver a yard or two behind without ever getting his head around. That's the most alarming part. He hasn't yet turned his head around to find the ball and make a play on it this preseason. Some players get unwarranted criticism but regardless of how the drive went doesn't mean that he's not getting burned and picked on everytime a quarterback sees him in something remotely close to man coverage. As someone stated earlier in this thread we have Walls & Lankster out there at times and teams still would rather target Kyle Wilson. Walls and Lankster don't have great technique but they at least have the brains to look for the football. On the topic too I think Darrin Walls is a serviceable #2 or #3 corner for this team. I'll have to go back and watch and he's not great but he's an NFL quality player.
Sounds crazy but Walls will be the most important corner on the team... Wilson has heart but gives up too much!
start walls and milliner, use patterson as the slot corner. with pryor and allen back as the safeties, we would have at least a competant secondary.
Wilson will start if Rex likes him enough because he will start a player despite the lack of ability, ie.......M.S.
If that were the case with Wilson, then he should not be able to be in the position to make INT's , which , if it weren't for him dropping one last night, was what he could have been credited for. Yes I watched the game - tell me, what cornerback didn't get the ball thrown to his way? They all got their rears burnt. When you have a group that is pretty raw , all it takes is one player to make the others try to pick up the slack. Not saying that this is Wilson's excuse , but that's just what the Jets are up against. To single out Wilson, especially when he wasn't even on the field when most of the Giants points were scored, is just absurb.
