Yeah, it's possible that the Giants given them their #2 for the #4, and then turn around and trade that for even more picks.

Very much a possibility or even grab a player they want at 4 who they would rather not draft at 2.
When Dorsey made those 3 trades on Friday it's obvious he is trying to change things there in a hurry. They have a very capable bridge QB now. Getting Barkley at 1 then moving a couple spots up to secure a Darnold/Rosen could definitely happen. When Kizer was shipped out you know he is drafting someone.
With all the moves they are making they do not intend on being in the cellar again. Why not make a splash and take the best RB and QB.
It's very interesting how things are coming together in Cleveland with all the young talent.

A trade up that involved future firsts and players not taken this year would definitely impact the talent available to the next regime.

Look at what all the trade ups and lost picks from 2007 to 2011 did the Jets chances post 2012. We're still feeling the impacts to this day.

Yes, if you traded up for several years in a row it would doom their future, but trading up this year, when the odds are very good of connecting, won't "doom" them if they miss. Of course it might doom Macc and Bowles, and how would that be a bad thing?

Losing a couple of 2nds this year and a 1st next year is losing a couple of impact players for the years 2019-2023 or so. If we got lucky on those picks we'd be losing 3 big contributors over that span. That's enough to make a good franchise average and an average franchise bad.

The Jets have not been without a 1st round pick in the WJ ownership era but we have given away a few 2nds as well as effectively giving away most of the rest by drafting poorly. That's why we are where we are. Hitting on a Darrelle Revis or a David Harris doesn't matter a lot in context to many other missing 2nd round picks.

The Jets need to go find great players in the first few rounds this year. That's the path forward. Trading up for one guy is just doing the same old shuffle that has put us in a bad spot in the past.

There's no attribution to the Vikings, so no it is not tampering at this point.

It might be Cousins representation leaking the rumor in the hopes of driving the Jets offer high so that they can take the quoted offer back to the Vikings as "reasonable".

    :D Well, I tried.

That is probably exactly how Jets' negotiations with Cousins will go too!

But it's not "the same old shuffle". When was the last time the Jets traded up for a player? Sanchez? And that didn't work out more because of other moves and decisions than because Sanchez sucked.

And what "impact" players have the Jets drafted lately? Leonard Williams is very good, but so far not an impact player; likewise with Adams and Maye. They certainly aren't indispensable or irreplaceable.

I'm not saying there would be NO impact, but certainly not "doom". It's a risk, but a calculated one and worth taking for the most impactful position on an football team.

What if Plan A is actually - Sign Brees to a short hefty contract, and draft Mayfield?

I hope for your sake that that's just a poorly worded joke.

    Great analysis.

Sign a 39 year old QB with 12 straight 4k yard seasons to a 2 year contract ,and also draft his protege to back him up? I know, totally mind blowing. Why on Earth would a team try and do that? Why try and win now while also building for the future? Why try to sign a guy that forgot more football than most know? This is the more competitive version of signing McCown and drafting a rookie.

Maybe instead, they take that $90 million and sign a broke dick like Bridgewater that hasn't played in 2 years, or maybe a guy that couldn't hurdle Andy Dalton, or a 1 year wonder like Keenum, or better yet a guy - a guy like Bradford that can barely drop back from center.

39 year old Drew Brees is not leaving NOLA for the Jets. Our window of possibly getting him was over three years ago.

No visits? Leads me to believe he's going to Minny :(

Far fetched, maybe. But, I wouldn't call it impossible.

The Saints only have 28 Million in cap room, and 20 free agents of their own. If Brees was going to cut them the "Hometown discount", it would have been done already.

Cousins seems like a forgone conclusion. First Caplan, and now 0 visits. That front is looking bleak.

I love Drew Bree's and signing him if he were available would be tempting..But ultimately stupid

Just like getting Brett Favre was ..and at much much much lower tier Kirk Cousins

How would it be stupid if you still draft a guy in the 1st round? What's the difference between getting Brees/draft pick and McCown/draft pick? Besides the extra wins of course.

With Favre there was no contingency, that was a Johnson/Tanny knee jerk move. The backup was Clemens and Brad Smith, there was no one waiting in the wings.

Yup, unfortunately Kirk is gonna be wearing purple. When it was reported he wouldn' sign right away and take visits I thought we would have had a shot but the fact the Vikes have made 0 effort to bring back any of their 3 QBs and he' n taking visits means it's a foregone conclusion.
