Not saying I want Kerley gone. He makes devilish catches over the middle, takes big hits in traffic, sneaky receiver I once called the new 'mr. 3rd down'. He got robbed at least one td in Green Bay and he caught the ball in the back of the end zone againt Chicago but was pushed out in mid air. Kerley just seemed less him self down the stretch. Unusual drops plagued his rep this season. I want to see a breakout next season, some hunger, wear it; bc guess what you only get to play this game at a high level once; dont leave anything special out of a small timespan; bring the A+ everygame
It's called Idzik mania. Many of our fans just adored the signing. I am proud to say I was one of the fans who saw through his facade of being a pro scout. I also read where a Seahawk (GM?) said we never gave him a chance. LOL
Explain to me how the NYJ had a top 5 pass D from 2010,11, and 12 with no passrush, slow ass LBs and Jimmy Leonhard/Eric Smith at safety. Who was covering people out there? Cromartie was very good 2010-12 and had a bad year in 2013 nursing the hip. I would expect him to decline at his age but as a depth guy he is still a bargain. I bet he also could move to Free Safety, and is a leader amongst this group already.
With the Jets rebooting the team, I don't see why they would let Kerley go especially being as thin at WR as they are. I would be curious to see how well he plays under a different system and a different Qb should that happen. I think the Jets should think long and hard before letting him go. With a new defense, we can afford to let Harris head off to Siberia and join Rex. With Gailey's spread offense, we need every capable WR we have IF we're gonna go 4 wide on certain plays.
I doubt he's getting cut either. But the fact that he signed a contract last year with a previous GM and coaching staff wouldn't be the reason he's kept on board. If, hypothetically, they didn't value Kerley at all and felt he wasn't worth that money, why should they keep him? Again, I doubt that's the case, but you can't justify a player keeping their job based on a contract they signed last year with a different regime (especially one that would yield 2M in cap savings if cut after June 1st)
His name is Chris Owusa and he had 6 receptions for 78 yds and a touchdown. That's not a better year.
What am I making a case against, you barely made a post and it was a shotty one. Cromartie has been an average to below average player for this team aside from one year where Revis pulled his hamstring and teams weren't throwing at him. Don't tell me to make an argument when there's nothing to make an argument against
Thanks I think, I didn't know anybody even recognized my posts on this forum but I'd rather not be thought of as arrogant or obnoxious
Not so sure about a bounce back. I know he was hurt some two years ago, but he has had two kind of unproductive years in a row. I get skeptical. Players who have two bad years in a row do not often bounce back.
Cromartie did not have 3 or 4 bad years in a row. Cromartie's history has often been one good one bad. That is what keeps him viable. And according to people who watched him last year, he had one good half and one bad half. So he is slicing it even thinner. Cro's athleticism and physical tools keep him in the league. Coaches are fascinated by his physical prowess. The mental part is another story.
Kerley doesn't cost pennies any more. He got his extension mid season and now is in the category of players who need to justify their continuing presence on the roster on that basis.
When the Jets changed regimes they put 20+ players we'd have penciled in as likely 2015 roster spots in jeopardy. The NFL is a competition in which only about a quarter of the guys should have a job locked up each season. It's rank and yank at its greatest possible extent due to the cap. When you change regimes that 25% shrinks even more. Especially on a bad team.
One of the things I like about the idea of bringing Cro back is that he would act as a veteran and leader as they retool the secondary. He really has that impact and presence. Plus he had a great year last year and is not hampered by injury.
I hear what you are saying, but I remain concerned that Kerley seemed to reach his ceiling in 13 and is not getting any better.
2.6 million, 3.1 million… unless he drops damn near every pass its not gonna be hard to justify his presence. JK is veteran skill at value pricing, the reason we can move on from PH should we choose without panicking over the level of veteran WR's we have on roster. he's not going anywhere unless he falls off a cliff, he's on too good a deal.
