His criminal instincts are mediocre at best. Look for him to get busted for stealing cable or perhaps leaving his ipod on too long in an airplane.

Just like to point out that in this country a person is innocent until proven guilty. This young man has not even had is day in court yet. Now having said that, I would have to agree with the poster here and else where who believe this to be a risky pick.

My major concern is not the pot smoking which the majority of kids do a least a few times. An as he has stated, He was trying to be someone he wasn't and hang with a bunch of folks who I am sure would be a posse if he made it big. Those types of leeches most people who make it can do without.

I am sure the Jets have done there due diligence on Mr Ellis after all even though he is a third rounder, for the Jets he as good as a second rounder. We past on another pot smoker a few years a go named Sapp , how did that work out for us? Also a kid from Pit, named Marino, who was a coke head how did that work out. Sometimes you just have to throw the dice and see how they land, if it does not work out you move on.

My biggest concern with this whole assault charge is that the DA took it to a Grand jury and they thought there was strong enough evidence to proceed to trial. I am hoping it was a slow day there and once all the facts are presented at trial the jury will vote to dismiss or find it was a case of self defense.

One thing for certain the Jets have consulted both Mr. Ellis's lawyers and there own and came away from those discussions feeling confident of the outcome of this case, enough so that they drafted him.....Could end up being a pick many other teams will regret not making aka Warren Sapp......

Ellis was born in Jamaica and lived there until he was 11... does anybody know if he became a U.S. citizen between then and now, or is he here on a green card/visa? If it's the latter, he could be deported even if the charges against him are pleaded down to a couple weeks in jail and/or community service.

I am not too worried about this current set of assault charges. I have to believe the Jets have done a significant amount of legal work and investigating to assuage any fears Ellis is going to get 20 years, per that asshole Cimini. That is not even taking Tanny's legal background into consideration.

That said, it has been my experience that certain people just have a habit of putting themselves in stupid situations. Ellis can make all the vague comments about how he has turned around, but that really remains to be seen. It should be bothersome to Jets fans, although listening to him speak, he does not sound like a hood rat. That being said:

The fact of the matter is that for the 3rd round, taking a flier on Ellis is certainly an acceptable educated risk. He seems to have quite a bit of upside. He certainly fills a huge need that just happened to be the BPA, well at least to the Jets, who had him rated #36 overall.

    We shall see..............

JoeyJets: er, btw, cute 'boyish' moniker 'Scot' with one T .....or is it Marc with a 'c' ?

Anyway, aren't you the same guy that said elsewhere on TGG (after the Jets drafted a pair of 310+ lb. ATHLETIC DL's), the Jet's pass rush would be worse than last year unless we grabbed a veteran pass rusher?

Whatever my slight additions to this board, last year my posts (ad nauseum) pleaded for the Jets to draft someone to "KILL the QB'' so know where I'm coming from: while I liked the pick of Kyle Wilson (and still like and believe in the kid eventually panning out), there were a slew of people here who imho had their head in the sand thinking that with the instant addition of Wilson, our defensive backfield would be so air tight that we could lock up an opposing QB's receivers for 4-5 seconds until our existing 2010 "rush" eventually got their mitts on the QB.

IMHO, KILL the QB and you have a positive "time & distance" impact: less field, simpler routes to contend with=Revis becomes an even more smothering force.

But I digress: are you saying that Rex Fuckin' Ryan won't be able to scheme a revamped "gap" blitz package platformed off the addition of the two athletic young beasts upfront (esp. Ellis who will command a double-team)? Of course the Jets could use some 'edge speed' flying in from the blind side, but to say that as presently constituted, the Jets pass rush is WORSE than last year? You actually believe that crap?

You've gotta be trolling...c'mon, fess up Scot with one T.

Oh and about your "Rudy" pipedream of an Eric Mangini-scripted bunch of good guys: as I also mentioned last year, the Jets are the new (hated) Oakland Raiders, minus Al 'soft-boiled' Davis.

you're a fucking yeast infection , scoT with one T.

...man, I'm buzzed.....sorry for the ramblin' TGG.....

    ;-)

One concern: Ellis could go to jail for 20 years if found guilty....

Well thats what bond is for...

  12. You mean like Ryan Mallett? Anyone else takes Mallett, and he's trouble. The Pats take him, and the Patriot way will straighten him out.

The guy that Brandon Merriweather shot agrees.

  14. Which one? The guys from college, or the ones back in March?

He also did a good job stomping on the opposition back in college. I don't recall hearing nearly as much about his issues.

My one concern: If he breaks everyone's face then it's going to be a really short season.

He's small time right now. In a few months he'll be breaking Brady's face.

Unfortunately, after he breaks Brady's face, the Patriots homers in the media will be clamoring to give Ellis the death penalty.

That same (ESPN) group that was so giddy after the MNF debacle in NE? The fans and media (as well as the league) want the big names out there playing, they want to see pretty boy Floyd playing QB for the Pats instead of some no-name Jet rookie just starting to make a name for himself.

Me? Let Mo Lewis-Drew Bledsoe history repeat itself for all I care. If Ellis knocked Brady into the middle of next year, no sweat off my back. Love the pick, love the kid and let's go. I gotta be thinking Brady quietly took a peek at the direction the Jets were going with their first two picks and (esp. seeing Ellis) maybe thought to himself: "er Bill, are we gonna draft some pass protection or what?"

There's a video clip (I'll try and find it) of Ellis being interviewed while visiting the 49'ers prior to the draft. He really played up the "team player" aspect essentially saying that he needs to command double teams so as to free up his team mates to make plays.

Huh? THE GUY WAS ATTACKED BY SOMEONE WIELDING A FUCKIN BAT! I don't care who drafted him, it's self defense. Am I glad he is a jet? You bet. We needed size, but I think that any football fan without 'headupassitis' could recognize the diff between problematic and serious off the field concerns.

Why doesn't anyone lament murderer Leonard Little?

This kid apparently defended himself, and a young woman... Sounds like he could be as rotten as they come, no? Fuckin people...
