I was sick when the retard fans cheered for Clemens. At least Mark got the louder cheers when he came back in!!
Kellen Clemens biggest fault is that he cannot make anybody believe in him. Two straight coaching staffs have looked at him and said "no thanks, we'll go get somebody else." The players don't talk about this obviously but if Clemens is unable to get the coaching staff on his side how is he going to get the locker room there? I was watching him for the very few plays he played on Sunday and I realized that he probably has not advanced even slightly since he was thrown into the fire in 2007. Same crab dance when the defense rushed him, same throw into the ground as he was moving away from pressure, basically he looked exactly like he has looked all along: ill at ease and awkward. I'd be curious how he looks in a more normal offensive system, because he looks like a constipated crab running the Jet's O.
The difference is that Clemens has been in the league for awhile now and he if he was even a decent QB he would have been head and shoulders above Sanchez in training camp. I did not attend any of training camp so I don't know for myself but all reports seemed to have the two of them about even as far as play goes. Clemens was playing at the same level as a rookie who had been learning the system Clemens has been in for years for only a few months. So far in his rookie season i have seen flashes of pure brilliance from Sanchez that give me confidence that he will develop into a very good QB down the line. The only flash I have ever seen from Clemens is that 4th quarter against the Ravens. That game came in the same year as his other 8 starts in which I saw nothing to inspire any confidence in Clemens ability to be an NFL QB.
It's moments like that, that continually dumbfound me as a Jets fan. As soon as people realized Clemens was warming up, if you were there, I got the feeling the crowd would cheer if Clemens was announced, and sure enough...... As I wrote last night, it completely reminded me of when Chad got knocked out vs. the Pats two years ago. The things some people root for are beyond ridiculous to me. Clemens seems like a nice guy and all, but Sanchez is our present and our future, and for so-called Jets fans to cheer a thing like that made me sick. Rookie QB struggles and throws INTs. Wow! What a fucking bust, he sucks. Some people know nothing about this sport and want the instant gratification that our society now seems to provide by the bucket full. It's a disgrace.
So, if merely being the league now is more important than playing in the games, then why not sit Sanchez until he's a veteran? I really don't know what to make of the reports I heard from TC this past off season, but last year the Jets wanted to make a big splash and landed Favre, and of course that was picking him over Pennington, too. The year before that Mangini announced before the off season even began that there would be no Qb competition. Clemens did better in 07 than Pennington, who it will be recalled had a huge following among Jet fans. For which many did not like Clemens. Again, I agree Clemens has not forced the Jets to play him. I have no illusions he's a frustrated pro bowler, and in any event he will probably be off the team next year. Almost certainly so, so it doesn't really matter. At which point I really don't care how well he will do, unless of course he signs with Miami or some crap like that. But I find it amusing and a bit offensive when people compare him unfavorably to some others here who have had it handed to them on a silver platter and did no better.
I give Clemens a pass on yesterday, he came in cold, first action of the year and threw a bad ball, I'm just glad it didn't go back the other way for a pick-6. But let's not kid ourselves, Clemens at no time in his career has been better than Chad Pennington, Brett Favre or Mark Sanchez and therefore has not deserved to be in there. The only time he should have been in there was when he was in there, after Chad got hurt and the 2007 season got out of hand. Even against some bad teams like Cleveland and KC he didn't look good when he had time to throw and a decent running game.
Clemens threw that ball away intentionally, consistent with the game plan. Clearly though, he will not be on the team next year. However, I for one, am not comfortable with the current backups (Ainge & OConnell) for next season. No experience at all - not a good plan.
Garcia seems to be a whiny dick if he's not the starter on the team. I'd be all for bringing him in if he was fine with being a back up, but all indicators point to him bitching about not starting
What this team really needs for a backup next year is somebody like Kerry Collins, an old pro looking for another paycheck or two who isn't a threat to compete for the starting job but will handle the duties acceptably if Sanchez goes down. Then you put Ainge or O'Connell in the holding the clipboard role and develop them quietly in the background with no fear they'll be thrown into a game unexpectedly.
Frankly people need to be much more focused on Sanchez than they are on KC. KC is in a backup role right now and MS is the man. Lets hope MS can lead us to victory against the Bills. Last time we played the Bills Sanchez was a disaster so hopefully he is motivated to play better this time and get the Jets back to .500 w/a Win.
Agreed. I don't know Collins' status next year be he's the exact kind of guy I would want backing up Sanchez.
Exactly. How hard is that to understand? He had a defender in his face and no one open. He did exactly what he was supposed to do and Rex clearly agreed. Sorry MB, but this thread is reactionary garbage.
If he was throwing it away it should have gone to Rex then. That was a little too close to the charging defender for my tastes, considering it would have turned the game back around.
you're entitled to your opinion. I stand by mine. Clemens is..and always will be...a steamy pile of poop.
There was an unblocked defender closing in on his left and a defender closing in on Richardson, but neither were anywhere close to the ball.
Good assessment, he couldn't beat out Noodlearm last year, he wasn't even good enough to play when Favre tore his Bicep, and he couldn't beat out a rookie in this camp...I think Kerry Collins would be a good backup for this team, it's time for Clemens to go Miami, like his hero...
Sage Rosenfels is a UFA next year. I'll take him to back up Sanchez, he's had plenty of starting experience and the Jets are a run heavy team. Jon Kitna is available too.
