The Chad/Kellen poll which is nearly a 50/50 lock with 100 votes proves that there is no one slam dunk statement or opinion that is going to get the opposing side to see the light bulb and convert.
Wow...good points there. I'm surprised to here Clement hasn't signed with anybody....I personally don't think Clarke deserved to get signed with his performance, he may have been the worst LG I have ever seen in Green and White. I personally want Clemens to start this year but you can imagine trying to beat CP out in Training Camp isn't going to be easy. I was there for the bmore game...I saw how he clawed us back into the game and how Jmac singlehandedly gave it away. We def'n deserved our horrible record last year...we had some really bad players out there for us. That being said, that extra loss b/c of Jmac's horrible skillset caused us to get Gholston. I feel our revamped oline, probowl fb, mismatch TE and a healthy Stuckey will all be cause for change for making our offense something worth watching week in week out.
i think behind this new oline it will open up the run game and take some pressure off of the passing game. i expect clemens to not only be the starter but also to put up big numbers.
Great post, I agree 100%. Have no idea why everyone thinks Clemens sucks. Just look at Eli's #'s in 04. Eerily similar. With a good O-Line and a good running game I think he'll be fine
I don't think you can accurately judge either QB from last year. Both guys started good and struggled as the season went on and things went bad. With Pennington you have a mostly successful body of work to evaluate outside of 2007, while Clemens doesn't have that, so he gets more unfairly judged.
I know...that's not the point. I stopped debating the whole chad/kellen thing months ago because of that realization. I made the mistake of making one comment and some idiot decided to put words in my mouth. That is why I'm pissed.
Not to mention there are no games played from December 30 until September 7, so all people can do is rehash the same shit and go in the same circles for all that time. How much of that shit can one take? If you're really a Jet fan you want the better guy to play until he is no longer the better guy. Period.
More ignorant Jet Fans - Shocker. (1-7) as a starter with NO line - NO blocking - NO Running Game and mostly Practice Squad make shift WR's in every game. Your right - he should have been in the Pro-Bowl under these circumstances. Some Jets fans make me embarassed to be one sometimes
Exactly. And we all know that the better guy right now is Brett Ratliff and that he should play until we get someone better.
brad smith HAS no hands for WR--as you write, you can't blame clemens for smith dropping the ball so often
Clemens As I said in previous posts the kid had a terrible line which has been pointed out and Coles was injured for much of the season. My concern is his lack of pocket presence which is something that cannot be taught but is instinctual. Most of the good QBs have that mental clock going in there head and know when to get rid of the ball. I'm hoping that his dancing feet was a manifestation of a terrible OL. Let's give the kid a full season at the helm and see how he does. If the line is solid and gives him time and he still has problem correcting his footwork in the pocket than we might have to move on but to give him such a short leash when the guy across town has been given 4 yours to prove himself is just not fair. Also keep in mind the jets receivers are mostly solid 2s. Cole's is on his decline physically and has lost some speed so I'm hoping the Stuckey can step in and help extend the field. As for Brad Smith he would be a taxi squad player on another team.
I think if you look back at all the great Qbs and compare how they played their first year I think you will see numbers very similar to Clemens. It is the learning curve every Qb must go through. I believe in him even though I didn't see enough stand out plays last year to really make me think he has it. I hope he does but we will see who wins in this training camp, it doesn't matter what we think it is all up to those two battling it out.
Baltimore game. Clemens shows at times what he's capable of. This game would have been a hell of a confidence booster if McCrappins gets these. The pass to Coles should have been thrown to the back of the endzone obviously but Clemens has tools. It was encouraging to say the least. Now there are more weapons out there. Nobody can close the book on him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogqK5YbOzdg
Your right, only your opinion matters. Bless us with your summation of the QB position sir. We are awaiting it with eager anticipation.
Clemens I am in basic agreement with you except for the fact that Clemens did have a lot of bad moments and didn't do anything to make us think he's the QB of the future. For this same reason I am glad the Jets braintrust drafted another QB in the draft. It's tough to judge any rookie QB after just a few games. Clemens showed flashes of brilliance, but so have many other QBs who never made it into the league. I thought both Clemens and Pennington had a bad tendency for the unfortunate INT at the worst possible time last season, sometimes that just can't be fixed by anything.
If Justin Mc-Cant-catch doesn't let those 2 TD passes bounce off his hands in the Baltimore game, the media and fan perception of Clemens would be much more positive. Just my 2 cents. I think it's too early for a verdict on Kellen Clemens, given our paper mache offensive line last season. All we can do is compare him to Chad and honestly ask the question: Which QB gives us a better chance to win and go the furthest, not just in 2008 but beyond???
Watch the Jets-Cowboys Thanksgiving day game on NFL Replay. Clemens was running for his life every single time he dropped back. He was, if not sacked, consistently pressured on 3-step drops. You could have put Dan Marino or Joe Montana in his prime behind last season's Jets OL, and they would have looked like Billy Joe Tolliver.
