    From Yahoo: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/report...4--nfl.html;_ylt=As1oZuzBMQ0E.IGXEHQTjgVDubYF

..FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) New York Jets defensive lineman Kenrick Ellis reportedly has reached a plea agreement in a Virginia court that will reduce a felony charge to a misdemeanor.

Multiple reports Thursday say Ellis will plead guilty to misdemeanor assault and battery, citing comments from attorney S. Howard Woodson, who represents the victim, Dennis Eley.

Woodson said Eley likely will pursue a civil lawsuit, which he was originally filed for $3 million, then withdrawn.

The incident took place in April 2010 while Ellis was attending Hampton University. The Jets selected him in the third round of the 2011 draft.

So.... will he miss any time with the team? I assume not, but the article is pretty vague.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that he is facing a prison sentence with a minimum of 90 days served, although it also said something about time served being applied to that.

It sounds to me like he will miss the entire offseason, but be available for most of the season pending league discipline. I could be wrong, but I will look for the article.

Why is a Pats fan being so "helpful", I wonder?

Are you suggesting that I take pleasure in a Jets player facing prison time? That might be true, but I don't think it is applicable in this instance. The fact that he was facing deportation, and instead will join the team early this season, should be a disappointment if anything to me.

How do you figure that? As far as I can tell, nobody here knows the details of exactly what happened and whether Ellis was actually at fault in any way, so how are you so sure that he deserved the sentence? I'm not saying he didn't, just saying that nobody knows the circumstances so it's pretty silly to pass judgement either way.

I'm just glad that he's going to be there for the start of the season but I can't imagine that dealing with a criminal trial and then spending time in jail won't take its toll on him. Let's just hope he does some serious lifting in the yard...

This thread is a wonderful little microcosm of this forum.

Read the facts of the case.

Phew...we're all good, no way they convict him over that bullshit.

Read the replies in the thread.

He's going to jail forever! Foreverzzzzzzzzz!

    Another victory for due process.

    Cimini says this

    Rich Cimini ‏@RichCimini

#Jets DT Kenrick Ellis sentenced to 179 days in jail, 89 suspended, during court appearance today, per AP. Reports 6/15 for jail.

    then he says this.

    Rich Cimini ‏@RichCimini

Ellis will serve 45 days in jail, starting June 15, per attorney. Minicamp ends June 15. Will miss first few days of training camp.

It's 45 days... he has to serve half of 90. At least that's what Twitter says. so From June 15 to August 1 (more or less). When does TC start?

dude, I think if it wasn't for the Deportation issue, I guarantee you Ellis's lawyers will go for a trial. Malicious Wounding or not, I bet the Jury would fully understand that if Ellis was in fact protecting his GF(and add the fact that the so-called "victim" had a baseball bat in his hand), then to them it wouldn't matter 'cause I'm sure they'd think the "Malicious Wounding" thing is a stupid law and would acquit Ellis based on that. I sure as hell would if I were on the jury. Our Country has turned into a damn mamby-pamby litigous society where no one has the Guts to fight for anything....only Sue. And these so-called "laws" prevent us from properly defending ourselves from attack. I mean....why the hell should we have to Run away from someone who we just disarmed? Stupid, Stupid law. And an even more stupid Justice System.

It's 45 with good behavior starting after minicamp and before full camp where he will miss the first few days. Of course it's up to Goodell what else he may get. If it was anybody else it would be ignored, the fact he is a Jet may mean he gets life.

    :drunk:

Lets see if I have this straight.

Guy has beef with Ellis's girlfriend.

Ellis stands up to defend her honor and beats the crap out of this guy.

Ellis goes to jail for 45 days.

Ellis also facing multi-million dollar lawsuit because of this.

I hope he learned his lesson.

Women cause nothing but problems.

don't really see where Goodell has any jurisdiction here since the transgression was before he was drafted and was still in college. Now Goodell will probably have the league keep a close eye on him, but I don't see where the NFL has any jurisdiction or previous precident to suspend or otherwise penalize a player for actions taken before he was a member of the NFL.
