What I don't understand is why is it so much easier to find a good KR than a good PR? I mean, I can understand you won't return nearly as many yds returning a punt than a kick... but many KR in this league drop soooo many punts when they handle PR.. Is it so different to cath a punt!?
It is MUCH different. On punts, the ball travels at a much higher angle and also has a weird spin on the ball. You also have to keep an eye on defenders to make sure you don't get lit up after catching the ball.
You need to fix the error of thinking that he was thinking that he was a third round pick. He was pointing out the mistake in the article.
FWIW, I just put Justin Miller on the Jets in the latest roster update (not sure how recent it is). Random game against the Chiefs. I start the game with the ball, and on the opening kickoff, I take it to the house with Miller!
I hope he learned how to cover someone while he was out there becoming "seasoned". Im glad we have some fresh legs to return kick off!
T - There was a stretch here where he was putting the ball on the turf. All the talent in the world returning goes out the window if you can't hold onto the ball. But I guess you can say that about anyone really. I like the signing. But just as a returner.
This is the main difference IMO. On a KO, it's rare to see any of the defense downfield near the returner before he's had a chance to catch and tuck the ball. It's the complete opposite on PRs. Often times, the defenders are within tackling distance of the returner before he's even managed to catch it. The thought of footsteps alone would have me waving my hand like Jim Leonhard. You're completely blind to the hits you're usually within a fraction of a second of taking while you're watching the ball come into your hands.
No doubt but let's not forget, that stretch was in his rookie season. After that he was basically the best returner in the NFL at that point... all the while improving his CB skills. Now, I'm not saying he was Ty Law all 99 Madden but it got to a point where he was a very servicable CB and had solid games. I am agreeing though, aorn, Returner only but as I said b4 REX is in FX!
It's Miller time again. Under the circumstances, I can't see him doing anything but returning kicks, which is a good thing. Nice move by Mr. T.
Rex said in his press conference today that they don't expect Miller to do anything this week except to possibly return kicks. He looks forward to see what he can do to help the team out in other packages as soon as he learns the system
to be honest, I always thought he was just as good as Leon at Kick returns. They have two completely different styles of running the ball however. Leon is more of the quick and shifty, find a crack, cut-back, and go kind of runner. Justin Miller just goes. He runs full speed ahead and seems to the find the crack, and will muscle through somebody if need be. He used to be fast as hell too, but it looks like he may have lost a step or two. I hope thats not the case....
