Boomer believes it should have been retired.

After the way Reddick played for us last year, I'd leave that number be. It's cursed.

Had a HOF QB last season and the team ate shit. They can do worse this season.

I was gonna add something positive but I kinda got stuck there.

Or Christiano Ronaldo in the other football equivalent :)

HOF QB is a career achievement, he was not HOF level last year, no where near. Russ, AR, Fields all played on a similar level last year. The difference is that Fields can actually improve at 26.

Here is the thing. Before Rodgers we had QBs rated #32 by a wide margin almost every year. We had Petty as a starter, Zach, even Sanchez frankly was bottom level QB. Even since Pennington, with the exception of a year or two we had 32 best QB for almost two decades. Last year Rodgers and Fields were somewhat below average, but let's not forget that even some below average is still much better than what we have had for decades, and much better than what the rest of the options are on the market. You can win with a guy like that if defense is good. So, with Fields, yes a little below average last year, but this was not typical #32 performance the Jets have every year. If Glenn gets the defense right, we can compete for play-offs with such QB even if Fields does not improve but plays like last year.

Now, at 26 years of age, and given the fact he improved every single year, there is a decent probability he will get better. How much better, not sure, but there are more and more examples of guys who showed some decent flashes earlier in their careers after mid 20s figure it out, like Baker and Sam. Now, is this a huge probability for Justin - maybe not, but there is a decent probability he will be an average NFL QB next year with some upside to be even better. We can compete with that.

It would be pretty cool if after all the decades of wasted draft picks, and dumb trades, that Justin Fields becomes our franchise QB

probably not gonna happen but we can dream.

if nothing else we have some likeable guys after Neil O’Donnell, excuse me, Aaron Rodgers

We’ve shown we lack the patience to deal with the early hard parts of QB development. Maybe it’s about time we get the benefit of acquiring one that already took his lumps elsewhere instead of being the leagues QB farm system with the likes of Geno, Sam and Zach?

Yeah, from the rumors that he wants to be traded to thrilled to be here, that's not a bad thing. Not that we were going to trade him anyway, but still, it's much easier to extend GW now. GW is a #1WR and needs to be treated as such, and that's one of the things where I thought Rodgers did not do well, he focused on Adams a lot more than GW because he knows Adams, and to be fair Adams was still good. But still, GW is better than Adams and he was open A LOT. When I looked at Rodgers' film, I wanted to see where he 1st read was, where he was looking, and it was almost always Adams side. When asked about, Rodgers said that GW is always #1 or 2 read. That is true, but almost all the time Adams was #1 and GW #2, even though given where these players were in their careers, it should have been reversed.

With Fields #1 will be #1, and that's GW. Bigger problem is to find WR2. We might actually keep Lazard if we cannot trade him, but he is #3 at best and it will be hard to find a true #2 WR this year given the draft and FA landscape. We might get a couple of # 3 level guys and perhaps a good pass catching TE.

To think we will strike pay dirt with Justin fields is dumb, look at the track record the jets have imploded every young quarterbacks career not named Chad Pennington

I'm sure that's not serious, but it would be pretty bold of Boomer, since the Jets gave it to him while Kenny O was still on the team!!

On stat muse says his record is 6-4 so to me that’s six wins

But you say it’s 4-2 ? With limited playing time ? Ok

    That’s still a winning record

Apparently good enough for the Jets GM and HC

Are you saying this was not a good pick?

He started 6 games, so 4-2 is what matters. The other 4 games he came in for a play or two, these are irrelevant.
