we were already down 10 pts when Webb picked off that ball, it ended our hopes but the chances of us coming back were pretty slim anyway.

The Ninkovich pick the game was pretty much over, the D killed us after the O got us back w/in a score.

The Branch INT was early in the game, we eventually took a double digit lead- the D blew it.

The goodman pick was bad but we got the lead back and had a non throwing QB pinned at his 5 w/ a few mins left. That was on the D

so we use eyes now but when Mark played much better than his #s we just use #s to evaluate. Got it.

They were all brutal fucking misreads. The chances of us coming back were slim because the offense sucked.

The Ninkovich pick sealed the game, I thought Mark was clutch? A clutch QB delivers in that situation.

Yes, the Goodman pick was bad. If that doesnt happen we dont get Tebowed.

Sure, the D sucked at Oakland. That doesnt give Mark a mulligan to fuck up. If it did, the D would get a pass @Denver for their fuck up.

    Most TOs are bad.

mark did deliver in that NE game. We took a 9-6 lead late in the first half, in a minute our great D allowed NE to go 80 yds for a TD to take the lead and momentum. NE went up 23-9, we scored a TD on the first play of the 4th qtr, our great D then allowed NE to go on a 7 min TD drive then mark threw the pick.

Like many games that year the D would always allow opponents to extend leads or would break at the worst possible moments but it was all Mark's fault.

The goodman pick did happen and our got the lead back and put the D in a perfect spot where they failed AGAIN.

I judge a QB capability by his personnal contributions to the team wins and loses. I further judge his ability to make everyone around him play better....the true sign of a leader. Not so much purely about how many playoff games he won.
A crucial separation for a great QB for me is if the team won because of him versus if the team won despite of him.

I think a lot of factors broke our back in 2011, special teams didn't play well either, nor did the defense we couldn't stop the run all season long. Of course QB turnovers also played a role.

This is what I don't understand, why not mention all the reason as to why we had an 8-8 season in 2011?

This is why we continue this spiral of bullshit when it comes to whatever QB is under center because we never consider all of the circumstances!

    Oh hell no.

    Back on topic...

I judge a QB on his ability to read defenses, make the right decisions and deliver the ball quickly. aka nothing Sancho is good at.

All this leader talk is BS. Leadership should come from someone on the Defensive side of the ball.

    Baltimore had Ray Lewis.

Agreed...Ray Lewis sparked Baltimores Super Bowl win because of how he came back from his injury and he lead his words by demonstrating it on the field

As for qb's look at what rg3 did for the redskins...he played with one leg essentially the last few games of the season leading them to the playoffs with a 6th round rb and mediocre receivers...he's a leader and a competitor...his warrior attitude and willingness to play, granted mike shanahan being dumb is what got him hurt, but tell me his teammates didn't respect him for putting in the effort he did...that's the type of attitude the leader of the team especially at qb should display...

Of course Junc has to come in here and start tossing around the term "fantasy numbers"...

Please try and argue that Mark is/was a better QB than RG3. Please dig yourself into that hole.

I didn't say that but another poster is talking about his inspiration(meanwhile probably their biggest win of the year over Bal came w/ a backup in the game). Where did that inspiration get them? to a home playoff loss in the WC rd, call me crazy but I'd prefer to win 2 road playoff games than go one and done at home.

Nobody was calling the other aspects of the team perfect. We are talking about Mark Sanchez's 2011 numbers. You cant downplay his shitty numbers by claiming lack of context then wonder why his 2011 numbers arent praised. His 2011 season was not good, he contributed to the collapse and failed to elevate the team when the other phases fucked up. Junc is criticizing the D for not closing out games when the O had a bad game, then defends Sanchez when the O fails to bail out a bad day for the D. There is no consistency there.

  14. 2011 wasn't all bad for Mark though. He was responsible for an impressive # of TDs & did the lead the team to some clutch victories in tight spots. Dallas, Buffalo & Washington come to mind.

    This is so stupid.

First and foremost you judge a QB on his "personal accomplishments." How does he play the position of QB. Then, once it is established that the QB is on a certain level based on his play, you judge him on how the team performs.

You do not however like most on this board did, extoll the greatness of a QB when he throws 12td 20int for the year but the defense is #1 and running game #1 in the league. They sneak into the playoffs and then that said QB happens to have a couple okay games due to the other teams so worried about said running game.

I always give Sanchez his due credit. You on the other hand like to overrate his performances. I can say Sanchez played well in 2010 you have to take it a step further and say he was top 10.

Well I'd rather have the future pointing upwards than having a competition with 5th year vet against a 2nd round pick rookie. Either way, we didnt make it to the SB. The Redskins didnt either. Thats all that matters. The Redskins on the other hand have a QB who puts up good "fantasy numbers" and look to have a good future ahead of them and a good foundation in place. Notice here, that RG3's "fantasy numbers" pretty much directly correlate how well he actually played.

And he put up those great "fantasy numbers" with a poor supporting cast.

On topic: The poster who brought up the "eye" test was entirely right. As many have pointed out, including junc, the numbers can be deceptive -- both individual stats (see e.g., M. Stafford) and team stats (see e.g., J. Flacco). While it's true that good teams can win Super Bowls with average QB play (B. Johnson [2001], T. Dilfer [2000]), a QB can make a mediocre team into a champion (A. Rodgers, T. Brady). This is why the "eye" test, although subjective, is really, really useful in evaluating QB play.

Applied to the Jets' current situation this year, we'll just have to see what Sanchez brings.

The future was pointing up his first few years.

Phil Simms in year 5 was battling for his job against a 6th rd pick. Not every career is smooth from the start.

awesome #s for RG III, how did he do in the playoffs? how many playoff games did he win? Mark won 2 as a rookie on the ROAD. You can keep the fantasy #s, I want to WIN

I agree though Aaron Rodgers walked into a great situation, he has never played w/ mediocre talent.
