Jon Runyon is another example of why the Jets have losers written all over them

I see. So Runyon was deciding between the Jets and the Eagles and he took out his Pro Football Encyclopedia and looked up the Jets and saw - "last championship 1969" and said "I'm not going to play for these losers."

Then he looked up his beloved Eagles and saw the string of championships they have won and decided to stay with that winning franchise.

Wait a minute - the Eagles have not won a championship since 1960!!! What was Runyon thinking??????

Don't you think Runyon signing with Philly had a bit more to it than "it's been 37 years since the Jets won a SB."

I just saw that Runyan is already in his early thirties. It surprised me. I'd rather have dumped a few million to keep Mawae anyway. No great loss, IMHO.

As for the loser image issue...it gives us a better chance to fly in under the radar and surprise everyone. A lot has to go right for this to happen, but at least there are no expectations this year.

At this moment the Eagles chances of winning a SB before us are far greater then us winning a SB in the next several years which is what I was alluding to. Also always remember we NEVER won a NFL championship since when we beat Oakland in 68 we were in the AFL not the NFL

Oh - so now the SB championship doesn't count either!!

In 1968-69 the Jet won the AFL Championship game by beating Oakland, then won the SB by beating the champion of the other league, the NFL, Baltimore.

To win a championship today, the Jets would need to win the AFC title and then beat the champion of the other conference, the NFC.

The big difference is that the letter L has changed to a C and league has changed to conference. Other than that, it is still professional football and a team has to win playoff games and the Super Bowl. Give it up already.

Personally, if I were the Jets. I would've held a gun to his face so that he didn't leave the room without signing a contract. What a complete and utter failure by the front office. And if he decided to balk, shoot the bastard. Then at least we won't have to worry about Bryan Thomas getting overwhelmed when the Jets play the Eagles in the preseason.

Really thanks for rendering that very wonderful slice of NYJ history that I was totally unaware of until your post but it still does not change the FACT that the NYJs have never/ever won a NFL CHampionship the one they won was as an AFL team which was in existance at that time. Go check it out if you doubt my FACTs

He was just using us to up the Eagles' offer; the FO had to know that. He is aging and the Eagles are closer to a SB than we are.

He would have been a nice stop gap signing but lets not make this out to be anything more than that. I live in Philly and all the Eagles fans I know were hoping we would sign him.

I was impressed that Al used "Mentally challenged" instead of "Retarded". The best we can hope for is Al to start calling people "Special". "Mentally challenged" hasn't been PC for at least 20 years.

When was the last time Philly won anything? If you agree that the Jets are soooo incompetant, then become a Cardinals or Lions fans.

THANK YOU, nightowltom. Even though, it will have little to no effect on our crowd of reactionaries, I appreciate the voice of reason every once in a while.

I liked Runyan ans a stopgap, but I'm not exactly disappointed that we didn't sign a mid-thirties OT to 'revitalize' our O-line.

Actually I believe MR is the politically correct term. "special" refers to any mental or physical defect or impairment
