Many of us saw this coming. He wasn't getting a fair offer from the Eagles which were the perfect fit for him and his family because his home is around there, so he used us to get them into panic mode and somewhat biting on his demands.

    Simple enough, I figure...

You make the mistake of thinking there are only Jets fans here. Darow, 69, jensen and the rest of the trash of this ilk are only interested in trashing this team and this franchise.

The Eagles let Runyan determine his market value, and then made a slightly lower offer knowing he wanted to stay, due to his many ties, both family and community he has in southern Jersey. Like Bradway, he actually has other issues that are more important than money. Bradway would be in KC by now if it weren't for his kids having roots in S Jersey. The Jets were interested in Runyan for the very same reasons he decided to stay in Philly. He is a character guy.

Keyshawn Johnson is ALSO a guy on the tail end of a career. I'm sure he would have loved to play in New York again with the Giants but.......HE WENT WITH THE MONEY, Thunderdork! That's what 99.9% of players do. Stop trying to make yourself feel better about the Jets by giving excuses. He chose not to go a simple 2 hours away from home because we're the JETS!

No need for sorrow, Dorow. Your bunion, caused by Runyan, will heal tomorrow.

Eagles | Runyan took less money to stay
    Fri, 24 Mar 2006 18:01:25 -0800

Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports OT Jon Runyan accepted the Philadelphia Eagles three-year, $12.5 million contract to re-sign with the Eagles. The New York Jets were actually willing to pay Runyan double the money in the first year of the contract and millions more over the life of it. Runyan couldn't leave the Philadelphia market in which he felt so comfortable. The Jets tried very hard to get Runyan to sign, but in the end they could not get the deal closed.

Waaa Waaa the sky is falling the sky is falling we didnt get Runyon. We will never amount to anything...oh the humimation...I can't take. Let's all go bury our heads and feel sad that we got rejected & played...blaah blahh.

Dude give it a freakin rest. The guy does not want to uproot his family or drive 4hrs round trip each day or rent a hotel and live in a dorm all week and be away from them. Maybe his wife didn't want him to be away. Maybe it is more important for him to be arouond his kids. It is pretty normal if you ask me. He is a business a smart business man, he negotiated with what he had available, it happens every day. Some people in life don't always take the job with the most money. Some people will take less to be happy. So that is what he did. Face it, he is financially set already, the difference in money is not a big deal for him. Why do you have to turn that into a pity party for the Jets. It is lame really.

Only the Jets can visit with a guy for 3 days, wine and dine him, and NOT sign him. Sigh...

"hometown" discounts are rare in sports, but does occur. Patriots have had a few. the key ingredients are $$$ (the differential),age, years in the organization, and family status. If the Jets did offer him more $$$ the differential wasn't great enough. The Jets are not losers for trying. NFL players have to use what little power they have in getting the most $$$.

It would have been nice to sign Runyan, but lets not get to worked up over it.

I never called the Jets losers for "trying" to sign him. In fact I give them credit for offering him good money. This is about the players of this league who look down on the Jets organization. We have a loser image that we need to get rid of. We've had it for a good long time. This kind of snubbing makes us LOOK like losers. It stamps a "losers" sign right over our beloved emblem. It's embarrassing even if it's NOT our fault.

Al, I think our loser image went out along with the old '80s uniforms with the advent of the Parcells era. I'm not going along with the idea that we are viewed as the "same old Jets" again just because a few guys like Antoine Winfield or Jon Runyan have personal issues they put before money.

And anyway, if this team being viewed as losers kept free agents from coming here, how to explain the $84m spending spree Leon Hess decided to go on midway through the Kotite era? It turned out to be a disaster of course, but the guys we signed were, at the time, the best available free agents. They had no qualms about joining a team with terrible coaching and no hope of winning. Money talks; but to some people, other things are more important. That has nothing to do with how great or terrible the team is, you are comparing apples to oranges.
