Shouldn't the fact he was out of shape and blowing chunks at spring camp have been the wakeup call? He's one incident away from tendency.....
good sub plot for Hard knocks.....one of a hundred things to keep your eyes on. The CS will be riding this guy I'm sure
Lets not forget McKnight was not a high draft pick, its not like we invested our future in this guy. The upside is big and we have no idea what the issue is at this stage.
It's almost unheard of for RBs to fail the running test. This kid was was out of shape in the spring, yet did nothing to rectify the situation. I think that it is too early to call this kid a problem, but he's really under the gun to wake up.
This doesn't bode well at all. How can a kid his age, and a professional athlete at that, fail the condistioning test? That's just pathetic.
Poor work ethic. Isn't it amazing how it's always brought up that he was compared to Reggie Bush coming out of high school but that it never quite happened? Things "never quite happen" for those who don't work for it.
I give Vernon Gholston opportunity after opportunity to prove himself, so I'm giving McKnight his chance too. That said, it really is ridiculous for this kid to have failed now after having been embarassed back in rookie camp. I'll chalk this one up to immaturity leading to not learning from his mistake, but this is one of those "last chance" things. He's got to get his act together. A running back who can't run? Come on.
How in the fuck does a 20-something YO RB fail the running test ? That's like unheard of !.......between rookie camp and this, this one is off to a real rocky start.....
Hmmm, that's debateable... For the long term, I'd bet on myself... In a few years this guy might be broke while I'm well on my well to an early retirement with a few properties under my belt..
bunch of drama queens on this site so if he was so immersed in the playbook that his conditioning slipped (probably not the reason, but a legit excuse), is that a problem? you people complain about any and everything. you have no idea why he failed, or even what type of results caused a failure ... shonne greene came into camp last year out of shape too, but he worked himself into game shape by the time the season came around hop off dudes nuts
Guys, he came from USC. He's probably dogging it because he's choked that he took a pay cut to go pro. (BA DUM PSSSHHH!)
and Greene didn't touch the field as the #2 back for a while. He was hurt with the ribs thing. Early in camp he looked pretty mediocre sans that picture with him destroying that kid holding the blocking pad.
Leon not catching punts or whatever he did poorly at camp is lack of focus/inexperience. Joe being out of shape at minicamp and then again not being able to run a few days before TC is just lazy. Name one even marginal role player who is lazy in any sport (besides baseball). That's why this is alarming. He didn't have the personal drive to make sure he didn't make an ass of himself on his second first impression. Yes, we all realize it's still early and his attitude may be influenced positively by being around the real pros on the team, but it'll take a total reshaping of his character. We spent two picks on this guy to be picked in the fourth round, which is arguably where the Jets scout team has made their money in recent history. Leon, Cotchery, B Smith etc., and Lowery's not too much of a fuck up and he startEd games his rookie year.
It will never backfire. He wanted to be paid as a top 5 RB and would never have been happy until he was. Good riddance. Use the money on somebody that counts.
