I never said the jets made the wrong move in letting Leon go, I thought they could have gotten mroe for him and should have kept him when we didn't get more. He'd still be doing more than McKnight is now, he won Seattle a game. What if that one game could have meant the difference btw the 1 seed and the 5 seed? would it have been worth it?
What's more, he's hardly getting touches in a bad rushing team. I'd say that's much worse than McKnight hardly getting touches in an already great rushing team.
They did acquire Marshawn Lynch and they do seem to fall behind early most of the time which takes away from their rushing attempts.
McKnight was never going to be our kick returner this year - Brad Smith is our kick returner and he's a damn good one. Your comparison makes no sense. The FO (apparently) correctly thought they saw the best of Leon's career and made some moves looking towards the future in the draft (Conner, McKnight, Leon). Conner does some things on special teams that neither Leon or McKnight would be useful for and so he gets on the active roster. Now we have seen McKnight make a positive impact as a gunner in Cole's absence. The point is that Leon didn't offer anything we didn't already have on the roster for this year.
mcKnight has done nothing, b/c he got lucky that a ball glanced off a blocker and we recovered let's not pretend all is well. McKnight has shown us absolutely nothing, leon w/ one leg has shown us more. if leon was here he would have been our kick return man and he won a game for Seattle as a return man. he can still return kicks and we have better STs than Seattle so his #s would be up here.
I never even mentioned the ball glancing off his leg. I'm referring to his coverage ability as a gunner. He's filled in well, I'm sorry if you don't see it. We don't need Leon's kick return ability, we have one of the best in Brad Smith - in fact he now has a better average than Leon. The team moved on and started looking at the future. You should too.
yeah...we should've kept Leon for the 5+ million a season he was humping Tanny's leg for. Thankfully....Tanny isn't retarded like AJ Smith....in regards to giving ST players obscene contracts (ie Sproles). I can't believe this is even being debated.
I'd love to see him get a chance to return punts He can't be any worse that what we currently have PS. i don't see why people are bitching about Leon What has he done since he had those 2 returns against SD(who has one of the worse ST in the nfl btw) He has just over 100 yds of total offense this whole year The guy is obviously not the same anymore
our coverage units were really struggling before Joe started playing. I bet you think Vernon Gholston is ready to break out too? soon he'll be a sackmaster b/c Rex has talked him up. You buy everything the jets feed to the press. How would he have been making $5+ mil? This is why post so much, b/c nonsense gets spread around and I have to set the record straight. b/c some posters do not understand negotiations they think if leon was back he had to get a big deal. He was under cotract w/ us and he would not have gotten his new deal. The original argument wasn't that we needed to keep leon at all costs, I was ok moving on if they felt he would never be the same(I bet you guys were convincved leon was going to be the same b/c that was the company line before he was dealt) but I hated giving him away for nothing and they drafted mcknight to replace him and he has shown us nothing. I'm not giving up on McKnight but I am concerned.
leon had more gamebreaking ability as a kick returner, but smith consistently gives us better field position. we start from our 30 or better most of the time.
Because the Jets aren't nearly as concerned about either back getting injured as you are. If one of them is going to get hurt it is going to happen. Taking away 5 carries a game from two guys that aren't carrying a heavy load to begin with isn't going to keep anyone healthy.
Junc's argument is that because he hasn't been given the opportunity to show us what he has it proves that the coaching staff doesn't think he has anything. Which is a stupid argument.
but it worked well to support his leon needs time to heal to show you what he's got argument. now that he doesn't need it, its dropped.
He's been solid but he doesn't have the speed or moves to be a home run threat but he has the vision. McKnight showed some nice promise as a PR in preseason, I'd love to see him return a couple punts from now until the end of the year.
But we lost one of our gunners to injury and he filled in and did quite well so far. I'm not basing this on anything Rex said, I'm basing it on what I've seen with my own eyes. WTF does this have to do with Gholston?
True. But Kyle Wilson is ass back there when he returns I'm surprise Leonhard's numbers are that good cause he seem to fair catch the ball a lot I can only remember him having like 2 or 3 good returns this year
You're not going to get many "home runs" from your punt returns, best case scanario is a couple per year. Leonhard is fine, 11 yard average is great when you have a good offense coming on the field, which we do. The biggest thiing is hang onto the ball so the D who just got off the field can stay off. If you notice, Leonhard returns most of them, when they want to take a chance at breaking one they go with Wilson.
