He wasn't used in that role, they gave him a few plays a game. he wasn't in the pass catching role that leon was in or that LT is in now. It doesn't matter what role the guys were in, if McKnight gave the coaches a reason to give him a couple of touches a game he'd be on the field. Our run game needs a spark, they are dying to get him out there if he could show his potential on the field.
That's what I'm looking at as well. But I'm not writing him off yet and I'm never going to come down on him for not being a big contributor right away. Its foolish.
It's not time to write him off but it is a little discouraging that he's done so little as a rookie. Next year is a big one for him; if he doesn't show anything early I'd assume he's never going to do to much.
Last year wasn't Woodhead's rookie year. I'm sure McKnight will get some meaningful touches next year...
Most of the touches he got were in December and we ran the ball a hell of a lot more last year. It was more important to keep the RB's legs fresh. He was also the only real receiving threat out of the backfield. Considering he was the only real receiving threat out of the backfield you'd think he would have got MORE carries if he was so good/trusted. Why didn't he? Because there's one ball and the guys in front of him were just better. Let's see what McKnight does now that we're in December. I doubt it's even as much as woodchuck had last year for several reasons, but I'm guessing he starts to see some touches now. Stop acting like you know how much or how little the coaches trust McKnight - you don't know. None of us do.
This is a dumb argument anyway, you're literally arguing a coach's thoughts, which is something neither of us can prove. No matter the motivations, Woodhead played more than McKnight (not much more, though...you're making it seem like he was an integral part of our offense, haha.)
It was his first year on the roster and he wasn't a highly thought of 4th round pick. last year for woodhead was equivalent to this year for McKnight. So it's not important to keep our RBs legs fresh this year especially w/ an old LT w/ more tocuhes in his career than TJ a year ago? I do know how much the coaches trust him, it's evident in the fact that he has never taken a meaningful snap on offense. They would love for him to see the field and try to make the selection and trade of leon look better, let's not kid ourselves here.
It's simple to prove, Rex is in the winning business. if he thought McKnight could help him win he'd be playing. It doesn't matter if it was one snap more, Woodhead earned the PT while McKnight has not.
I'm glad you're sure but I'm not. I hope he has meaningful touches but he hasn't shown anything on the field yet that would make me expect that he will be good. Maybe he's showing it in practice, and I'm sure the coaches have an idea about whether he can contribute.
You refuse to acknowledge anything anyone says. You just continue to pound your fist and state your case over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. Again, we ran the ball MUCH MORE last year, so there was MUCH MORE wear and tear on the RB's bodies. Let's keep pretending like everything is equal between the two situations and make blind judgments. It's fun.
He was drafted as a project. A highly though of project. Projects don't have immediate impacts. That's not true at all. Sure Woodhead was injured his rookie year, but he still participated in training camp, he still got a whole year with the team, learning the system/plays, and developing relationships with the players/coaches. You'd be lying if you said that wasn't an advantage. Also, Woodhead had a much less talented offensive roster to earn playing time with last year.
a year ago through 12 games TJ and Greene ran the ball 304 times This year through 12 Green and LT have run the ball 329 times I guess that kind of blows that theory out of the water, huh?
he was drafted to contribute this year. Woodhead didn't make the big club his 1st year, last year was his rookie year. Going throuigh a camp w/ no game experience is the differnce btw a 4th rd pick not showing anything and an UDFA getting on the field? come on. Woodhead was behind 2 RBs which helped to make up the best running game in the league and he earned touches. The bottom line here is that Joe McKnight has not earned his playing time. It doesn't matter who is in front of him, if he showed anything he would have been getting touches here and there or at least been back on PRs. Isn't it interesting the one area he showed us anything in was PRs in preseason and he wasn't even considered for the role after Leonhard went down? This should tell us everything we need to know about Joe for THIS YEAR.
What does that have to do w/ anything? I was told he was in there to keep the RBs fresh, the RBs late in the year were Jones and Greene and they had less combined carries than greene and LT this year.
