The Cincy game was well in hand the other night- why didn't JHoe get any carries? and they threw to Woodhead out of the backfield in meaningful action.
Chrebet came in and immediately produced for us at a high level. The only comparison between the two is they're both white and undersized.
i dont know why joe didnt get any garbage time carries, does it matter? do you consider getting garbage time carries earning playing time? if not, then its not relevant to the discussion and they threw to woodhead because we had no pass catching threat out of the backfield once leon went down and we had no 3rd WR after the braylon trade ... this year we have LT and holmes, theres not many touches to be had
That and they both produced once they got a real chance to play. Chrebet did it faster because he was on a horrible team with no players, that's the only difference. Everybody is an expert after the fact, you're all the same guys that would be looking down your noses at Chrebet the minute he showed up for camp because he was undrafted, small and white.
Because one fumble could turn the whole game back around, the way Greene's fumble did four days earlier vs Houston.
I root for every Jet to succeed. You said we'd all hate on Chrebet for his attributes. I know I wouldn't have. What we really hate now is people crying about a guy who was the 53rd or 54th best player on our team being let go when we have a stacked roster and we're 9-2. We don't hate the short white guy, but you guys are really beginning to make me want to.
I don't follow. What is impressive about that? The guy has 2 solo tackles and I don't remember either of them being particularly stellar.
And what did Rex say on WFAN today? If you could tunr the clock back, would you have still cut Danny Woodhead? "Ahem...ah... probably not. We knew he was a good football player."
I think we're all on the same page there. You've said I hate McKnight, he's a Jet, if he gets in the game I'm 100% behind him. What I get tired of is this weird cult on here who attacks anyone that dares mention he hasn't contributed as much as we hoped after trading Leon Washington and cutting Danny Woodhead. Then as we watch Woodhead help our arch rival match our great record they don't own up to the fact that they might have been wrong, when even Rex said he regrets cutting him now.
The regrettable thing is that the Pats picked him up at the perfect time. Faulk got hurt right after they grabbed him and had been molded by the Jets to fill the Kevin Faulk roll perfectly. It is regrettable that the chain of events has led to Woodhead helping a division rival. It is not regrettable that he isn't on the Jets anymore because as has been stated almost every 3rd post Woodhead wouldn't be contributing to the Jets in any meaningful way. Some of us are weighing the later part of the equation much more heavily while others are weighing the former into the equation much more heavily. Just a matter of what side you want to focus on more.
"Weird cult"... couldn't have said it better. These guys rail at any mention of Woodhead, and look, it was the first big mistake this regime has made, is it that hard to admit it, especially after Ryan has? As far as McKnight goes, he's here, he's a Jet. My near complete lack of confidence in his development into a contributor notwithstanding, I hope to to be very wrong about the guy. Unlike the McKnight cultists (and Woodhead haters) my ego doesn't get in the way of defending biased opinions and even hoping I am wrong about a Jets player. More than anything, the McKnight nut huggers DO let their egos get in the way of fair discussion. They still can't admit releasing Woodhead was a mistake, a big one. The Jets failed, big time fail, on finding a way to use Woodhead. For instance, why did he never get a shot at punt returns? He never fumbles, has great hands and every time Wilson returns a punt I wait for the ball to pop out. But I don't expect the "cultists" to change their opinions or ever admit they might be wrong. That is what cults do... they embrace beliefs based on some abstract hope rather than factual evidence. Then when their arguements break down... they digress to name calling or as in this case, accusing someone of making a player evaluation based on highlight films, which was mentioned as nothing more than a sidebar. That is what dilusional people do when confronted with facts... change the subject in a vane attempt to save face and disredit anyone who might disagree with them. Pitiful really...
I'll buy this. I don't expect anyone to see the future and the Jets are doing fine right now so your point is taken. But as T-bird Jet just said, people take it too far and don't see it for what it is. If there's a role for McKnight then there was a role for Woodhead, plus New England wouldn't have him right now. Belichick likely would have found some other way but as Jet fans it's irritating to see Woodhead helping them out and still getting scolded by the McKnight cult about how great he's going to be and how we don't know anything.
Just because he's found a role somewhere else doesn't mean it was a mistake. You can only keep 53 guys. It sucks he's helping the Patriots, but HE. WAS. NOT. GOING. TO. HELP. THE. JETS. THIS. YEAR. IT. WAS. A. MOVE. FOR. THE. FUTURE. We have a stacked roster. Sometimes you have to let a football player go when that's the case. It's a good problem to have. It has nothing to do with being delusional. It has to do with being able to see the big picture instead of crying over something that wasn't meant to be. You act like woodhead is the new Barry Sanders when you say it was "A BIG MISTAKE".
McKnight only recently had a role because someone got injured. The same reason Woodhead has a bigger role in NE.
Guys get injured in football, you know that going in and that's why you keep your better players even if at the moment there might not be a big role for them. I think Woodhead would have gotten carries here because Rex has repeatedly said he wants to keep LT fresh for the end of the year/playoffs, and Greene has taken himself out of some games by fumbling where they didn't want to give him the ball again. If there was another RB they could trust he'd probably have played but I don't think they trust McKnight not to fumble any more than Greene. It's all speculation but you look at what Woodhead is doing now and all the concerns about his size or that he was only productive in pre-season vs second teamers and whatnot is out the window at this point. We're a very good team, we're not perfect in the running game and certainly not above improvement.
You are saying all Woodhead got were garbage time carries, why didn't Joe get any? Woodhead was invovled in our O catching passes out of the backfield. he wasn't very good by the way yet he still eanred his time while Joe is trying to earn his time.
Perhaps he should have been. Turns out he's a very good player. My biggest problem with the coaching staff is that they're overworking LdT, who is old for a back, historically injury prone at the end of seasons, and IMHO has been slowing down. The Jets could have used Woodhead as a running back on some passing downs to lighten the burden.
