Well the obvious question is did the Jets keep McKnight over Woodhead and Chauncey Washington for good football reasons (he fits their system/has more potential/his contract is longer and works better) or a bad football reasons (like he's a fourth rounder and they don't want to get raked over the coals for cutting him so quickly).
You're really making something out of nothing. I know we don't agree often, but you at least usually have a level headed opinion. If there were a NEED for a CB, McKnight could do that in a pinch. If there were a NEED for a RB he would be doing that. The Pats needed someone to play 3rd down RB because Faulk was injured. If McKnight were available he could have been plugged in like Woodchuck. You have no idea if McKnight is ready to play running back because there's too much talent in front of him.
Yes, and he was inactive for that one game against the Jets. I'm sure there was at least SOME gamesmanship going on there. When focker went down @NYJ it opened up an opportunity for woodchuck.
Who's pissed off? I was wrong, they picked him up for Jets week - probably for information. The guy was inactive for the game and was given an opportunity when Faulk went down. I'm sure they wouldn't have gone after McKnight had he been the one cut
thats exactly the point. For those bashing Mcknight, whose carries would you like to reduce to give him some offense touches to test his progress? LT or Greene? Heck they only get 10-15 total touches a game each. They are both playing well, why change whats working? I could see Mcknight getting lots of carries in the last 2 games or so if we somehow manage to wrap up a playoff spot and the division is already decided. But the best players play unless we don't need them too. All we can definately say about Mcknights progress is that he isnt better than LT or Greene. Which is pretty hard to prove in practice. Mcknight is getting better and will be able to contribute soon enough. Be happy that he is contributing on teams for now. especially since he is/was filling in for an injured Cole, and actually is outperforming him since given his opportunity.
Woodhead got on the field when we had Jones and Greene down the stretch a year ago, if he was impressing the CS they'd find a role for him but apparently he is not.
The answer to that is neither... they just want to keep bitching about him not getting carries over those guys.
Mostly in blowout wins he got time, and most of his time was in December. We haven't played a game in December yet and we've only had one real blowout where McKnight did in fact get touches. We also ran the ball a hell of a lot more last year.
http://www.thejetsblog.com/2010/12/02/calm-cool-and-collected/ Like the kid or not, tip your hat to him. I find that really impressive.
he got on the field because they tried to make him into a slot receiver (complete with changing his number) ... with the addition of holmes, there is no room in the WR inn, either
He got carries and they threw to him out of the backfield. He earned his way on the field even w/ Jones and Greene ahead of him.
the only time woodhead got "carries" in any game was when it was a blowout (TB, CIN). he had a bunch of games where he had one carry ... and he did earn his way on the field, but on a less talented team. he had the same opportunity to earn that time this year and he couldnt
He would be criticized here by the draft dorks for being small and white, saying he has no chance and they much perfer the size and athleticism of Stevie Anderson.
Was Jason Davis ever active for us last year? In the games Woodhead was active in, he was the 3rd HB with 1 FB so there were 4 active RBs. We have 4 active RBs now (LT, Greene, Conner, T-Rich).
