i interviewed for a job at the nfl main office early feb, went to the semi rounds...the interviewer told me it would be tough for me to get the job because i competing with interns from football organizations and ex players. thus, the guy i was waiting out with got the job..he had been with the rams organization for 4 years as a intern man the retention rate is 95% there...no one ever wants to leave. I was interviewing for a 3 year Blue Chip Business Rotation Program
dude...you need to back off this guy...the sarcasm is obvious and every time you correct it, you end up being the one with egg on your face...
Ok that wasn't called for. I wasn't trying to be mean or anything I was just busting your chops a little.
I've said this before but, I didn't take the job...I'm a video producer ironically for a company located in florham park, nj. I couldn't take the job (sports reporter) because I couldn't A)relocate to LI and B) commute both ways, job didn't pay enough to warrant it.
However, I dunno who said this but, if or when I reapply, I'd definitely use this website for insight, I'm sure employees do the same. I usually just read posts, and post when I feel inclined...
I had an internship at the NFL Park Ave offices 2 winters ago that I got through an alumni at my school. Amazing experience, but I couldn't get a job there since they don't have many entry level positions. I did try to network as much as I could while I was there so hopefully I can get back there someday.
Very competitive and tough industry. There's always someone who is willing to work harder than you for less $. Plus, one of my advisers once told me if you enjoy being a football fan the worst thing you can do is make a career of it. Soon if becomes mundane and you lose your passion...obviously there are exceptions.
That is somewhat true..... I've worked in the "industry" not the NFL but another aspect of sports. I don't think its made me less of a fan but certainly less passionate about the teams I root for. It's hard for me to yell and scream at my TV and be angry at people I know. It has become especially hard to do it in public. I remember watching a game with my buddy and a certain player on a certain team screwed up and I think I called him every name in the book. The my buddy says to me "didn't you guys play golf together last spring?" I felt kind of stupid and said yeah but he still sucks. BTW it certainly helps to know people, I had to network alot and unfortunately kiss alot of ass and even work for free to get where I am. If you wanna work in this business that's the best advice I can give you. Intern and make sure your better than all the other interns. I've worked for 3 seperate minor league baseball teams but if you think everybody doesn't know everybody you are crazy.
