problem is Revis and Cro may lock up the outside receivers but: we'll have to contend with: -8.5/10 Eric "big hit-but-a step slow" Smith not locking up with Brady's 3rd & 4th receivers..we've seen this problem before... (there are people who like him--I obviously think he sucks, whatever) Objective Jet fans will observe (looking at THIS year's Eric Smith, e.g. vs. Cleveland Browns) smart as he might be, he can't RUN/HANG with the big boys.... white 8.5 vs. 9.8.....sorry, but that's life. Brady (much as I despise him) has noticed...and is probably licking his chops...along with (obviously) Welker.....and OMFG.......Danny Boy Woodhead. i'm hoping i'm wrong...DO WE HAVE A FUCKING PASSSSS RUSH THAT I'VE WHINED ABOUT FOR THE LAST 6 MONTHS????.....or, do we post one of those great 34-20 Jet wins? Stating the obvious: I love the Jets...I'd root for the Russians over Brady & Belicheck, but: Eric Smith? *GULP*
Why does NFL.com's headline say "Star safety Jim Leonhard injured" He's a really solid player..but why do they say star? edit: weird, they took it down
Hey I know Jim is a good player and make the most of what he's got and "plays like a jet" and is tougher than nails, but lets not make it like we just lost Ed Reed. Leonhard is definitely at most average in coverage, and they will be able to replace him. I like him as a player a lot, but losing him is NOT as devastating to this defense to the level that losing a guy like Jenkins was. To tell you the truth, I'm way more upset about losing him on the punt returns. I felt so safe with him, you knew he wasn't gonna screw up. I hope they use Cotch.
Did you write this with the intention of anyone actually understanding it beyond you think Eric Smith sucks?
Just read Jim has a fractured tibia but it did not break the skin. They are also not calling it season ending until after surgery.
Listening to Westhoffs presser, he was going to make a move at PR this week prior to this happening. Apparently he is dissappointed in Kyle Wilson and will be using Cromartie and/or Holmes in his place.
Assuming he is actually only average in coverage, which one of our safeties will be able to easily replace him in calling the defense? Aside from hanging out on the field as an average safety he was also in part responsible for getting the D set. Considering all of the movement we do and multiple packages we run, I think replacing him will not be as easy as it sounds.
Dammit we needed him. Well now that we are going into our biggest game of the year we should find out what we are really made of .We need every guy on the roster to step it up a couple notch's .I can't remember when the last time any team beat the Pats 2x's in a season. So we will need no matter who's on the field to be at their best . The odds of out coaching BB aren't good so kicking his ass outright will be our best bet just play hard play JETS football and win the turnover battle. will be our best chance. Oh and don't forget the Dolphins still suck...
Its different enough for Brad to have documented difficulties. The blocks set up differently, the timing and judgment is different as well.
Just heard this is horrible news. Get well soon Jim. Gut check time for the Jets secondary. The part that really sucks is that it happened in practice and not when he was killing brady on Monday night.
We beat them twice in 2000 I believe that was the last time they were ever beat twice during the regular season and that was before the Brady era.
Has McKnight learned to hang onto the football yet? Remember the preseason? Yikes. Wilson makes me nervous as a punt returner. His longest return this year is only 18 yards. I'd like to see Holmes, Smith, or Cromartie take a stab at it, wouldn't you?
I don't really like that, if it's not going to be Wilson, I'd prefer it not to be someone as important to the team as Cromartie or Holmes. Don't want them getting tired out on PRs.
Unfortunately, ESPN's John Clayton just reported that the Jets have announced that Leonhard is done for the season. %$^&! Not good. The Jets have had a lot of trouble covering receivers in/across the middle of the field this season. Brady, Welker, and their TEs are probably licking their chops right now. But **** 'em. I think Revis and Cro will lock down the corners, sidelines, and deep balls. Smith and Pool will benefit from great defensive coaching/preparation. More than ever, we need to rattle the QB, get some sacks, and dominate 3rd downs this game. Let's go, JETS! :jets:
Wilson wasn't getting many PR's, I suspect whomever is replacing him won't either. Unless they light it up.
this chabges our offense as much as defense. we essentially spotted NE 7-10 extra points. if shotty was planning on a ground and pound before leonard got hurt, he has to change it up to a shoot out now. should be a much better game to watch. sanchez vs brady all night long. my money is on nacho.
Well, he wasn't getting many PRs because Leonhard was getting them all. Now that Leonhard's out, somebody's going to need to his returns.
