Is it me confused or is Fant playing pretty well at LT - much better than he was at RT? Not to jump ahead to the offseason when its only week 5, ---- but since I got sick yesterday, I've been trying to imagine something good. Tackle position come 2022 is going to be interesting. Fant has a high cap $$ - not sure if he's worth it. I've never been a big time fan. But Becton has had a share of injuries - and because of that, we have a shitty hand to play. But what to do about Moses? - on a 1yr deal & having an average year --- likely because he has a dipshit next to him who cannot hold his own, - much less offer/provide help. In my 2022 Draft/Offseason Mock (already working on it) -- I have RG going to top dollar UFA & then we resign Morgan Moses short-term - keeping Fant as flex ready to come in at LT for the times that Becton gets hurt (even at a high $$). Just an early tease on my offseason mock, -- Connor McGovern will be......
The smart play might be to move Becton to RT for the remainder of the season and slide Moses inside. Fant and AVT appear to be gelling on the left side, and with Becton coming off an injury, RT might be the better spot for him at the moment- less pressure. It would solidify the line with our best 5 on the field and improve the running game and pass protection.
That would work as well. I just wonder if Becton can handle the footwork because it's obvious it's a much more natural for Fant to drop his left leg and have his right leg be his inside power than the opposite when he plays right tackle. I don't like Becton at guard at all either because he's so fucking tall but I'd be open to seeing it if need be. There would be nothing wrong with it if he turned into a stud guard. Fant looks much more comfortable on the left side. Depending on what side they play Becton on, we could stand to upgrade 2-3 positions again next year which is alarming. McGovern is very streaky with his performance and is obviously not a very good run blocking center.
Yeah, I don't see Becton as a guard. It's tough enough for a QB to find an open passing lane, much less having to do it with a 6'7" guard standing right in front of him. I think McGovern would improve significantly if he didn't have to slide right to cover for Van Roten all the time. That RG position is really killing us.
This is why I brought it up, it took 5 games to get these guys to build chemistry and AVT is becoming a beast. I would hate for Jets to disrupt that chemistry, they are having a tough time as an offense right now, I would hate for this to continue. An experienced CS might do that with no hesitation, this CS, especially Lafleur, I believe it’s his way or the highway so it won’t happen.
This team gives this guy a huge extension after 3 games this year and he has been downright invisible since. Ive never been a fan of giving extensions out in the middle of the season. Especially to a guy like this that comes off of 1 good year last year and 3 decent games to start this year.
I was happy when this happened but apparently I am a schmuck as well. Somebody start "Fire Brook!" thread soon.
