I think it's more positional value. JD values the o-line and D-lines a lot. and the QB obviously. He values WRs as a T2. He doesn't put a lot of value in safeties, CBs, LBers, or TEs.
He let LW go for a bag of chips, and signed 4th rate IOL like Van Roten and Alex Lewis to be starters. There were also rumors QW was being floated as a trade possibility. He’s shown he can be very tight $ wise on his biggest priority. I’m not sure what JD stands for at the moment really. He doesn’t seem interested in retaining anyone who was here before him tho which is my biggest criticism of him.
That’s why I said Jets believe. These guys are still developing and learning a new system. Also yes to the contract situation.
1 People seemed happy with the trade deal at the time, fatboi went all in for a new deal, not doing so good this season. 2 Rumours, unsubstantiated stories 3 better tight than sloppy, well that was what my dad used to tell me, but on second thoughts that might not have been about money 4 Does he have to stand for something in particular? 5 Can you really blame him? Robby but that was on Gase IMO, Adams talked his way out of the club and again neither are ripping the league up, we dealt with the other in A1 or do you have any others I will add as my own negative, for an OL guy he doesn't have an eye for talent on that front, certainly not in FA.
The rumors about Q being traded came from Mehta and the other beat writers shot it down. https://www.thebiglead.com/posts/qu...-writers-manish-mehta-shoot-down-01enn8mbm8t9
Maybe he felt leo wasn't a good fit and didn't want to pay him 20+ mil for a guy who we all know was good but not great. not worth what the giants are paying him. Q is better and plus at the time he didn't fit our system as we were running a 3-4. We already had a better cheaper player in Q. Trading leo was the right move. IOL he did what he could. good lineman aren't falling off trees. He found fant and paid him what some may consider above market value but as of now he's playing way better then his pay. He signed moses as well. made a run at thuney. signed a top 10 C who was the best FA C available. Drafted becton and AVT with top 15 picks in back to back years (one of which he traded up for) Maybe he realized he took over a shit team and also a different system. He knew gase was gone and wanted flexibility and future picks to build a team around his new coach when he got one. Now that we have stability he's keeping players who fit the team and system right. If you took a job for a 6 year contract with a HC you knew would be gone in 1 or 2 years and had no cap room and a bunch of bad contracts on underpeforming players, what else can you do other then blow it up for future assests you can use when you have stability?
Serious question, Fant has played much better at LT than any of us expected, do you think Becton should be moved to RT? I would hate to disrupt the chemistry they have been building.
Becton should play LT and Moses should stay at RT. Let them play their natural position. Why make Becton learn how to play RT midseason? It isn't as simple as plug and play, the footwork and movement is opposite.
Sit Fant? Fair enough, I don’t see Jets sitting Fant though. They are going to put him back at RT where he struggled and sit Moses as he was the backup. That’s going to suck for the line to build chemistry again. Hope it won’t take too long.
now I know that you understand the NFL better than most, and this guy probably has no clue what he’s talking about, but:
Love that quote from Staley. Sacks numbers for individual players are arbitrary on a yearly basis; sacks as a team stat paint a much better picture of how good a unit is.
Pretty sure that's called a "reality check." Some here seem to have lost touch with that and are so used to failure that they tend to overreact when something good happens. I'm not looking for "pleasing zing," just objectivity.
JFM did not get $55 million. He got $30 million. It's ridiculous that some posters don't understand this yet.
The full details aren't out yet but I saw $2 million signing bonus paid immediately. That most likely means the Jets are on the hook for $14 mil/year for two years (2022 and 2023). That's it. That's all that's guaranteed. Seems like a great deal for both sides.
Contract Notes John Franklin-Myers signed a four year contract extension worth $55 million with the Jets on October 7, 2021. Franklin-Myers received $30 million in guarantees of which $14.815 million is fully guaranteed at signing. Franklin-Myers will receive a $2 million signing bonus at signing and a guaranteed $10 million roster bonus in 2022. There are annual per game roster bonuses of $500,000 in the contract From over the cap. And we have a get out after next year if it goes south.
I think they will sit Fant and keep starting Moses. Moses is playing well on the right side, better than Fant was. Why disrupt the chemistry and potentially cause more problems on the OL? I think there are a number of potential reasons why Fant is playing well now. One, because he's playing at LT, where he has more experience; two, he has AVT beside him, not GVR; three, Maybe he is naturally a better LT than RT, because he feels more comfortable there, and RT feels backwards or something; four, it could be the increased pressure on the OL to protect Zach and to get the offense going; five, maybe he feels more comfortable, has a better understanding of the offense now and isn't having to think too much.
Another reason why I hate giving big deals out mid season. I doubt it’s the reason but JFM was completely invisible the game after his big deal. Almost as if the motivation wasn’t as high.
I wouldn't move him. he's still better then fant. fant can play the primary backup. fant isn't gonna he here long term, becton is
I wonder if it's possible for the Jets coaching staff to think outside the box and stick Fant or Moses at RG to replace that dipshit we've started for two years there.
