I understand protecting a "franchise" QB in a meaningless game, but is it really wise to sit TJ Yates today? Did I miss something? Is he an old pro? He can't use the work?

Those Qbs can throw out of the pocket under a rush. Those QBs can read a blitz and get rid of the ball to make a defense pay. Those QBs actually take hits while throwing the ball. Those Qbs also extend the play when rushed and make big plays. Have you ever seen Sanchez take a hit while throwing the ball. He would rather curl up into a ball and avoid the hit, He is soft. He will simply not sit in the pocket and take a hit to complete a pass and he will not extend a play when rushed. He simply cannot play tackle football. He is fine on play action or in the 2 minute drill when not rushed but he cannot handle pressure. He panics and folds into a ball. Manning has never had a line as good as the Jets line this year. He avoids sacks by making quick reads, taking hits, extending plays and leting defenses know he will hurt them if they blitz, All qualities Sanchez lacks. Terrell Suggs is right sanchez is soft and folds under pressure.
why not throw on 3rd and 9? take a shot down the field and worst case its basically a punt if its picked off...
