I was watching the game in my dorm room at SUNY IT - at halftime a dolphins fan called me up to taunt me about the game - I said "The momentum is turning here, you watch the Jets are gonna win this game.". Needless to say when the Jets won I called them back (waking them up) and screamed J E T S JETS JETS JETS, then hung up.

    what a game!

I have only heard that stadium louder a couple times before and it was HALF empty in the 4th qtr.. Easily one of the best games I have been to, at least top 5..

I'll never forget that night. It was one of the games I didn't go to that year. My first sone was due to be born any minute and I couldn't go. I remember calling my Dad and waking him up (because he had given up) telling him that we were coming back and he didn't believe it. I nearly woke the neighborhood up that night...But I truly have to wonder, down 30-7 to start the 4th quarter on a Monday night, would I have been driving home at that point with a long ride home...That's the question that haunts me...By the way, my first son Andrew was born a few days later so in hindsight, I could have gone. I give my wife crap for that to this day..lol

    Let's Relive The Madness !

JETS vs. DOLPHINS, October 23, 2000

It was a match-up of two 5-1 teams - Jets vs. Dolphins in the meadowlands on Monday Night Football. Things were looking bleak for the New York Jets. The Dolphins Lamar Smith scored with 12 seconds remaining in the quarter giving the Fish a commanding 30-7 lead. At that moment, Fielder walked off the field and went over to Jason Taylor to tell him the game was over. Half of the crowd left as it started getting late and the game was just ugly with the Jets not doing a thing right. The clock struck midnight and then it all started changing.

For some reason we stayed and said, "If we don't score on this drive, we are leaving." Well, we didn't leave and things started getting pretty.

Before we know it, Vinny came out in the 4th quarter to lead the Jets to a TD capped off by a Vinny to Laveraneus Coles 30 yard touchdown. All of a sudden, with almost a full quarter to go, we were down 16 points (that's TWO scores with a 2-pt conversion).

The defense then held with the Jets stopping the run and pressuring the quarterback. Four minutes later, we had the ball. Vinny led the time back down the field and found Jermaine Wiggins for a 1 yard score.. We went for 2 points but were not successful and were now down 10 points.

Before I could even realize what was happening, strong D got us the ball back and John Hall booted a field goal with 5:43 remaining in the game to cut the score to 30 to 23. Down now only 7 points with just under 6 minutes to go.

What was even crazier was that fans were being let back into the game. Security was breaking the rules and letting people back through the turnstile.

Could we cap off this miracle 4th quarter? My heart was beating faster that a chef beats eggs. Another strong showing by the defense and the Dolphins were forced to punt. Vinny walked us right down the field again, this time hitting Wayne Chrebet for a 24 yard touchdown to tie the game. However, there was still 3:55 remaining and the way this quarter was going, anything could happen...and it did. But, it didn't stop us from going berserk in the stands when the score was tied. I was hugging everyone in my section, high fives, confetti, etc... It was madness.

Then, depression set in. On the 2nd play of the Dolphin's drive, Jay hit Leslie Shepherd for a 46 yard touchdown to now put the Dolphins back up by 7. The stands got quiet again. Would it be possible to drive down the field again?

With time now a major factor, Vinny started working some magic again using Richie Anderson as a weapon but the time kept on ticking as we got to the red zone with no time-outs remaining. We were on the four yard line, it was 4th & 1, and there was around a minute to go and Vinny connects with Richie Anderson for a 2 yard pickup. FIRST DOWN !

After an unsuccessful first down play, It all came down to this. Jets were on the Miami 3 yard line (in front my end zone where the entire 4th quarter was) and we were 3 yards away from a Touchdown. The crowd was roaring. The stadium was rocking. And the Jets pulled out a play for all ages. Jumbo Elliot reported in as an eligible receiver.

Vinny called for the ball, the receivers went out, including a Wide Open Jumbo Elliot. Testervede tossed him the ball. It felt like the ball was in the air for minutes. Jumbo bobbled it and some how managed to get his hand under the ball. TOUCHDOWN ! We then had to sweat out an extra point by John hall which he hit. Jets tie up the game at 37 a piece with only 42 seconds remaining.

The fun was far from over. Fieldler was driving the Dolphins into field goal range when Marcus Coleman intercepted the ball and started running the ball back the other way. Jets Ball, well, only for a few seconds, because Coleman fumbled the ball on the interception return. Classic example of Hero to Goat. But, if you believe in Miracles, as Fiedler started driving back down the field, Marcus Coleman redeemed himself by picking off another ball.

Vinny drives us to set up a 40 yard field goal. The crowd is as loud as I've ever heard it and John Hall boots a 40 yard field goal. The Monday Night Miracle was complete. At almost 2:00 in the morning, the Jets accomplished the impossible, a 40-37 OT victory after scoring a team record 30 fourth-quarter points while overcoming a 23 point deficit. That in turn, tied the 2nd largest comeback in NFL history for a club trailing after 3 quarters. Vinny because the 3rd player in NFL history to throw 4 fourth quarter touchdowns. Vinny's 4th quarter numbers were: 18 of 26 for 235 yards and 4 TDs.

It was a night where you got home at 4:00 am and had to find some highlights of the game before attempting to go to bed for a few hours before work.

This game edges out 51-45 !

That was a very painful night....

I don't drink, but at the time I was on vacation in SF. My buddy and I proceeded to get fully tanked during the first 3 quarters of that game, and looking at the score at that time, I abruptly announced to the entire bar, "It's Over!!"...."Miami Has Officially Spanked The Jets On Monday Night Football"...

I go outside for a quick smoke, and within minutes I see everyone inside the bar cheering. I'm like, ok maybe the Jets did finally score a quick TD, big deal. There's now less than one quarter of football left to play, and the Jets have no chance at scoring enough TD's to catch us{my thinking}. It was one of those games where Miami was doing everything right, and the Jets couldn't find any momentum. I was convinced Miami would not lose....

Well, needless to say I don't remember anything after that. Just a blurr. I do recall throwing up about 100 times the next morning though. LOL!!!!.....

It was a hell of a game. I'm just angry our defense couldn't keep you guys out of the endzone. I think you had like 5 straight possessions result in TD's. A disgusting display of defense allowing that to happen. It's good to have Saban now that's for sure. I don't think he would allow something like that to happen again....

I have a VHS copy of the game. A bar I used to go to called DB Coopers (no longer around) would tape every MNF game. They would show the game live then usually replay it right after. You see I live in Los Angeles and the game starts at 6 out here. I was watching the game with about 15 of my friends at DB's and right after halftime I told my buddy Hoss that the Jets were gonna come back and win. I watch the tape once every year.

I had to help out with something at school (my first year teaching), so I listened to the first quarter on the radio in my car as I drove 30 minutes to Owensboro to watch the rest with a friend who was a dolphins fan... I left there at half because I was tired of my friend's crap... listened to the third quarter on the radio, then got home and tuned in for the fourth quarter... and the OT. Greatest game ever (even though I only saw half of it on tv). Truely magnificant... the next best game was the thriller in the flashlight bowl with Tampa Bay and Keyshawn (who had one catch for one yard) while Chrebet got the game winning TD. Great stuff.

I never leave games early.(1st time was last season)
And glad I didn't for that one.
No traffic at the end either! Got into manhattan @ around 2:30 didn't get home til 3 and since I tape the games I watched the 4thQ and OT over when I got home.

Unfortunately the tape ran out right after the 2nd Coleman INT.
It wasn't until 2004 that I was HD-DVRecording the games.
Man, To have that game in HD would be AWESOME!

I was at a bar on Rt. 3 in Secaucus (pretty close to Giant's Stadium) that I often visited on Monday nights because they served 10 cent wings and 5$ pitchers.

It was packed and by half time most of the Jets fans cleared out. I was sitting there getting shit from a couple of Phin fans I was with.

Slowly but surely...as we crept back...fans on their way home from the game were pulling over and before you knew it the bar was packed again with Jets fans (who were at the game).

The J-E-T-S chant in that bar was so loud I'm surprised the windows didn't shatter. Needless to say I couldn't speak the next day.

I'll never forget the looks on the faces of the Phins' fans when Jumbo caught that TD! Without a doubt one of the best football moments of my life!

My reply is short and simple. I sat in my rec room watching the game as I always do, for three quarters I shook my head as the Jets got their ass kicked once again. Then came the last quarter and Vinnie lit up their defense as never was done before, I screamed my head off like never before. After the game I sat and drank a few bourbon and waters cause I sure as hell could not sleep. Man what a night. Allentown Ernie.

Great game I watched with one other Jets fan in the Cheetah 3 (common hang out of dumb ass dolphin fans) in Pompano, Florida. We heard so much shit until the end. What a fuc*ing finish, cant wait until this year.

One of Chrebet's greatest games...the diving over the shoulder 10 yard TD reception to tie the game at 30 and the 28 yard catch and run to set up the winning FG.. plus he had another TD.

Was actually watching it with some Miami fans and was taking shit all night but when all was said and done I was doing laps around the bar waving my Chrebet jersey! I still remember the look on those Dolphin's fans when Hall's FG was good!!! PRICELESS! Oh what a night indeed!

yes this is a night i will remember for the entirety of my lifespan. MASH finale... End of Cold War... New Years 1999... the never forgettables... I work in TV... at the time I was a Producer at a Sports Cable Station and I worked with a woman who was an On Camera Talent who wanted to learn more about football, to try out for a job as a Broadcaster... knowing I was a Maniacal Jet fan, she invited me over her house to watch the Game, she wanted me to explain and break down the intricacies of the game. It was kind of like a study-date. ... the whole first half was a doldrum of me explaining the virtues and meaning of a 3-4 Defense vs a 4-3... all these inner complexities of the game... it was kind of la-di-da for me... at some point in the second half, I came alive and began to Believe... and the night turned from Lesson...to a "where were you when?"... and the rest is history... but I will never forget it. Truly. It was a beautiful night.
